What do you call the text above the stave (ie. Tranquillo espressivo) explaining how to play a piece ? The only thing i can think of is a tempo marking, but this isn't really a tempo

I'm in the middle of writing the briefs for my GCSE compositions, but i'm stuck as i can't think of a word.
