Hope this works - haven't tried it before...

My 9 yr old daughter took her grade 4 violin exam in March. Every other candidate who took exams at the same time at the same centre have had their results. The AB wrote to the centre a week ago to say that individual mark forms are "sometimes held back due to additional monnitoring and checking processes" and that presumably is what has happened in this case. Does anyone have any experience of this having happened to them - or any suggestions for what it might mean? I'm assuming that there cannot be a general query about the examiner as otherwise presumably all the results would have been held back not just my daughter's.

I don't know what it means, but just wanted to say a mega big well done to your daughter for doing grade 4 violin at such a young age. I'm almost 17 and have played for years and am still only about grade 4!!

I've occasionally had this happen & it wasn't anything to worry about, just rather annoying! A friend who was an examiner occasionally had mark forms sent back to her for corrections & she said this can cause delays, especially if the examiner happens to be away when they are returned.

Thanks for this reasurance. I hope it's something simple like that. Today is her first lesson since the exam, so her teacher may have some suggestions too.

Well done to your daughter, she's doing really well!

This happend to us at Christmas, in our case the mistake was ours, my daughter played the wrong Recorder piece (she didn't loose any marks). This won't have happened in your case as Violin is more straight forward coming in a book. It didn't take that much longer, about a week, for the mark to be moderated and returned. I know how worrying it is, but the AB do try to be fair.

Panic over. Don't know what the delay was all about, but her result came in today and as it was 133 it was well worth waiting for. Mother and daughter both very happy bunnies, especially as she also had a distinction for her G3 Theory exam this term.

What a great result. Well done.

Yes - well done! That's brilliant. Just a thought but maybe high marks are double checked - hence delay?

Thanks Goldfinch - and everyone else - for your supportive comments. A friend of mine who is a piano teacher suggested that very high or very low marks might be double checked - and that might well be true but I don't think 133 is high enough to count as very high. Don't get me wrong - I'm very pleased with it, as is my daughter, but I would imagine you have to get 140 or more to be in the "so high it needs double checking category".

I think they check them if there are alot of high marks, or maybe if someone is against the trend for a centre. So glad it worked out happily in the end.

Thats an excellent result for such a young age. She should be very pleased with herself!! happy.gif
