I hope the U.K will be better this year, although i'm very suprised that Justin Hawkins wont be singing for us this year. I don't know if you saw the English contest, to select our UK entry; a band named "Scooch" got in.

When I was younger I always used to watch it - had a crush on the Herrey Brothers who won in about 1980 with 'Diggy-Loo Diggy-Ley'!! However, after hearing the entry this year, I don't think I'll bother. Not even with Skyplus so I can fast forward it. Although Terry Wogan is always worth a giggle.

Yes Justin seems an intriguing chap. The air cabin crew might not do so well. We'll see soon enough!

I never watch the semifinals. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I had to look it up, but they won in 1984. They were Swedish of course.

1984!! Doesn't seem that long ago. As far as I recall they actually lived at the time in California, but were representing Sweden. Three tall blond boys in rather dodgy outfits singing about their golden boots.

1980 must have been Israel and 'Milk and Honey' singing Hallelujah?

Such a shame that it's all a bit downhill now. Bosnia voting for Serbia voting for Croatia etc
Estonia voting for Lithuania voting for Latvia. Sweden voting for Norway voting for........

I agree.

There's alot of tactical voting going on and to be honest, most of the singing is pretty bad/humiliating, although I still like to watch it for interest. (Like any of the singing contests e.g. the x factor, you will always get bad/inexperienced singers. I enjoy American Idol - lots of talent in that show).

I'm a bit obsessive about quite a few of the talent shows - American Idol - Any Dream will do (I can give the Grease show a miss though).

We watch it just to have a laugh with Terry!

It drives me mad when they all start patting each others backs, makes a nonsense of the whole thing. I forgot for a minuite nonsense is just what it is biggrin.gif
sarah-flute
The times I do watch it (and it only happens if I find myself at someone's house as I have no TV) it can be amusing, MOSTLY due to Our Tel. Bless 'im. Especially later in the evening when the free drinks start to kick in laugh.gif though I recall from last year some of the acts were hysterical!

Tell you what, the MP team should BE our Eurovision entry one year: that'd be a show to watch biggrin.gif

My day has just been made - this thread has inspired me to look up The Herrey Brothers and I've just found the clip from the Eurovision of them singing the song on YouTube!

I'm now regressing to the crush I had when I was 14!

Yes, and they would have a programme where they sang various songs and there was a phone-in vote to choose which would be used in the final.

For "Camelot", dial 08812 964111 or text A.
For "How sweet to be an idiot", dial 08812 964112 or text B.
For "Isn't it awfully nice to have a ######", dial 08812 964113 or text C.
For "Brave Sir Robin", dial 08812 964114 or text D.
For "Eric the half-a-bee", dial 08812 964115 or text E.
For "I like Chinese", dial 08812 964116 or text F.

"No, on second thoughts let's not enter Eurovision. It is a silly idea."

No, nothing at all.

erm....bad songs, dreadful costumes, the most drawn out scoring system you'll ever see, shall I continue? laugh.gif

We're going to play Congratulations on the bandstand at Market Harborough. As Eurovision is fairly close, I thought it'd be topical. smile.gif

I actually like it for amusement value, though for musical value it's not exactly the best ever laugh.gif

I like to watch with the subtitles on because the translations of the lyrics are often pure comedy - shame so many of them sing in English now really!
Cyrilla
Totally agree, Sarah laugh.gif .

I usually just turn on for the voting which is the best bit - all the 'tactical' voting and Terry Wogan's comments - priceless!

The Old Lady
The really decent one was The New Seekers with Beg, Steal or Borrow, think it was about 1972ish. They only came second...........it was a travesty. They should have won. They were brilliant. The song was super. And I was their number one fan at the time. laugh.gif

I normally try to - I was actually in the live audience of the last UK one. biggrin.gif

Though it does seem more of a performance contest than a song contest - and I'm sad that most sing in English nowadays instead of their native languages. sad.gif

Shouldn't you be playing a winning song? Sad that what is probably the most well known Eurovision Song didn't win. I suppose that says everything about the competition!

I haven't got a winning Eurovision song in my collection..... sad.gif

Anyone got a flexi-arrangement of 'Making your Mind Up'? biggrin.gif

The only Eurovision song I really like is an Estonian one from the late 90s laugh.gif I actually own it on CD, I've no idea what any of it means but it's eversuch a pretty song!

well I've got Congratulations somewhere, original 45, I've probably got others but can't think off hand. My Grandparents owned a pub and if Grandad got to the Jukebox records first they usually came my way.
