It's possible that I'll be able to play a cello concerto with a local string orchestra. However, I don't know which concerto to pick! I played Boccherini Bb with them last time, and they've recently done the Haydn C, which would probably be the next most obvious choice (I'm not quite up to Haydn D yet....give it time!!)
So, does anyone have any ideas for concertos that they love?
The orchestra can also bring in a few wind players, but not many, so it's really string orchestra pieces I'm looking for.
Any ideas?!

There's one by Viotti I've heard which is good and I think would be OK for string orchestra. It's in C major I think.
Obviously loads by Vivaldi, all a bit short perhaps. I like RV 416 G minor
I like C.P.E. Bach, A major
No idea what these are like to play

How about the Tchakoovsky Variations on a Rococco Theme? Great fun!

Yes, they're great, and I have learnt the piece, but I'm pretty sure it's for full orchestra, unless I'm mistaken! Shame, shame...
Thanks for the ideas - I hadn't thought of CPE Bach - I'll go on Naxos and have a listen!

Yeah I've done Haydn C with string orchestra, it has oboes but that's only optional. Sounds very nice although the parts are somehow difficult and needs true rehearsing. Also, if you find a good fellow, you'll be able to play the great Vivaldi concerto for 2 celli in G minor.

I was going to suggest Boccherini's Bb, but then I saw you'd done it! Will any of his others do? I only know that one and love it.
