Several years ago I held a 'nostalgia' party - everyone came dressed up in school uniform and we sat and watched videos of Watch With Mother, The Herbs, Bagpuss, Camberwick Green and Trumpton whilst eating egg sandwiches and jelly and ice-cream (all very nice until someone spilt a bottle of cherryade all over the sarnies

). Brilliant.
I often spend long car journeys working out the solfa to the music from these wonderful programmes (I know, I'm a Sad Woman

).
I think Sandra Kerr was Madeleine the rag doll in Bagpuss and I think did a lot of the music. She is a Big Cheese in Folkworks in the North of England and is a great folk expert

.
The music for these programmes was SO wonderful!
When I started teaching one of the 'Bootleg Beatles' last year I was delighted to find out he is of the same vintage as myself (one month older) - so our Kodály lessons tend to be interspersed with serious discussions about Spotty Dog

.
And why do you think my little sis goes under the name of 'Bagpuss' on the forums?!
Well the tunes used and singing had an influence on a 30 something soprano to the effect that her children also like all the songs and want mummy to sing them to them. Good job singing is so important around our house.
