Hello everyone, I'm new here...

I play the flute and enjoy it very much. I can't say what grade I am because I haven't done any exams, but I expect it would be fairly basic one. I'm an adult self-teacher and I've been learning for about 2 years. I've been lucky enough to find people to play with and encourage me and I now play in a pub band sometimes. I also dabble in melodica and penny whistle and sing a bit.

I played piano and recorder at school but not very well and didn't enjoy it that much. But it taught me a bit of music theory which is really handy now.

I've rediscoverd music making in the last few years and it's been so rewarding smile.gif I've found out that you can enjoy it loads even if you're playing in a really basic way.

I've just acquired a clarinet and want to learn to play it but it's still a struggle just yet...

This forum seems really usefull for me for finding tips as I haven't got a teacher. (I woudn't mind some lessons but can't afford it anyway rolleyes.gif )

Thanks for putting information up which people like me can get for free, it really makes a difference!

P.S. I don't practice enough....

Hello, I'm new to here too. Although I learn too little, I think I still can teach you something (if you really get it as extra and needy, hopefully).

I'm Joan. I'm 16 years old (can be consider as 17, as I'm born in 90). I live in Penang, Malaysia. I'm learning piano and double bass. I learnt double bass in my school chinese musical orchestra. I learnt recorder and trumpet before(I give up as I think I'm not good in breathe control; it's hard, not enough breathe). I know a little violin and cello. I'm learning Grade 7 and 8 Theory, preparing for 2008 March exam. I joined Proart (an chinese musical orchestra in Penang), as double bass player. Look forward for an exam of double bass. I'm preparing the Grade 8 piano exam right now. I'll have O level exam in November.

Self studying is a good way to know better about an instrument. I hope you will be happy with your instruments.

Best regards,
Joan

It's the name of a cat I once knew. Realized too late that people might think I play the oboe...
