Does anyone on here own an electric violin? I really fancy having a go on one (definitely not to replace my 'real' one!) and thought it might be fun to play when I play in my church music group. musicMakers.gif But I wouldn't want to spend a fortune and wondered if getting something cheapish would be a complete waste of money. What do other people think? smile.gif

Hi Gilliwigs - No they are not a complete waste of money. Have a look at a Stagg EVN 4/4, lots of colours (mine's in black). They cost about £80, if you shop around. They are sold on e-bay and elsewhere. Just type Stagg EVN into Google. Also have a look at the Hobgoblin site (is there a Hobgoblin store near you ?) Basically, you just have to try a few and see what happens ! Feel free to PM me if more info required.

Cheers.

I've not tried any electric violin other than a Yamaha SV? (possibly 200?). I can't remember the exactly model. My sister purchased one about 3 years ago and i've been playing it since. It is a lovely instrument and for me it is the most comfortable violin i've ever played. The setup is just perfect. I've not really played it much plugged into an amplifier but i've used headphones. Most of the time I just play it as a 'silent' violin though.

If possible try as many different ones as possible as with all instruments, as it may be worth while purchasing a better model even second hand than a cheap one, which might not be so good.

I have a Carlo Giordano electric, basically the cheapest we could find. Not sure of the price exactly, but they again come in a range of colours (mine's purple biggrin.gif ) and it does the job perfectly. Thinking about trying some effects with it now... does anyone else use effects with theirs and what do you use??
