I've often had thoughts about getting everyone in the band to swap instruments and see whether we could continue the performance. Similar fantasies about instruments being turned over to members of the audience when I go to concerts etc....

Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra did a recording some years back where they'd all swapped instruments. The playing was a bit ropey, as you might well expect, but I believe the entire thing was done in aid of charity.
