but everyone knows how to play that... tongue.gif it's the song you teach to someone if the person does not know how to play piano!

D# C# F# , (Bb+F#) (Bb+F#)

D# C# F# , (Bb+F#) (Bb+F#)

D# C# F# , (Bb+F#) D# , (Bb+F#) C#, (C+F) (C+F).

Is this the beginning? smile.gif

3 notes in the right hand and 1 note in the left?
LOL biggrin.gif
I have absolutely no idea. I think it starts with D# in the right hand and then goes to C# and then B.

The bit of music missfabflute wrote out - I too know it as "Chopsticks", but when I teach it to my pupils (I don't want them to feel silly if they themselves couldn't play the one piece that people who can't play the piano CAN play!), as I say, whan I teach it to my pupils, I tend to call it VAMPING (Chopsticks) and tell them that there was a piece of music that also sounded as if it was improvised (vamped) that was really called CHOPSTICKS, but was published, and so I suppose that other VAMPED pieces of music, particularly this most popular one, also therefore were called CHOPSTICKS. The original Chopsticks was written by ARTHUR DE LULLI (the CHOP WALTZ) - I have a copy published by Mozart Allan of Glasgow thqt looks as if it was published in the 1950s or before- but this piece goes:

GGG GGG GGG GGG BBB BBB CCC CBA
FFF FFF EEE EEE DDD DDD CCC CDE

(THAT'S THE RIGHT HAND, ALL CROTCHETS, THE TWO LINES PLAYED TOGETHER - sorry, couldn't get them to line up correctly!)

It was called Chopsticks probably because you can play the right hand part with two hands (making it all a duet) playing all the notes with the side of your 5th fingers, as if chopping the piano like an axe chops wood.

Sorry, don't know who made up the one more recently called Chopsticks.

Are we really all thinking of "Chopsticks" as the same thing: look at these!

no it's not chopsticks...chopsticks uses 2 fingers.

this one uses black keys when descending in the melody,
and the white keys when ascending tongue.gif

In Russian, it's called Sabaichi Valse, but I was also told that it's called Chopsticks. But then again, someone also told me it's called Chinese Whispers. :S

The only time I've heard this in full was in Tom Hanks' "Big" when played as a foot duet on a piano kb at least 15' long on the floor...the keys lit up when touched.

lol that was on tv a few weeks ago.
