I just got the piano gd 6 book for 2005-2006 and there are some mega pieces in there! I like the jazzy one best: Feelin' Good, and Prayer of the Matador. Just wondering if anyone else has this and what pieces they like.

Yes, I have the pieces as well. I do have to agree it is a nice syllabus. Myself and my teacher also love 'Feelin' Good'. I also like the Allegro (A3) even though it is rather challenging to say the least! 'Vals Poetico' is also one of my favourites too! When are you planning to take the exam?

I'm glad I have a pupil taking his grade six under this new set of pieces, because as you said, the pieces are mega, even the ones that are printed separately outside the book. How I would have loved to have taken my grade 6 now. Prayer to the matador is one fine piece. You are literally spoilt for choice with pieces to cater for everyone. biggrin.gif

There is a piece by Takemitsu on the Grade 8 syllabus!!!

I'm really shocked- as everyone I know who has heard of Takemitsu says his pieces are really random, so i'm surprised it's on the list!

I'm not complaining anyway- i love Takemitsu's music- i'm just shocked!!

The new pieces are fine- but what suprised me was how much thinner this book of grade seven pieces is compared to the old ones! I guess we must be lucky and just have shorter pieces! But they may be harder than before?

Yes, but I thought that last year's grade 6 pieces were good too, even though I did not do very well with the ones I chose!!. However, I would loved to have played the Chopin Opus 28 No 6.

Nat, are you doing grade 6? Are you skipping grade 5?

silver pianist- no im not skipping grade 5 . im doing that this november and hopefully grade 6 next july
