I found out that the vouchers I won are to spent at Brian Jordan Music (unsure whether it'll be the trade stand or whether I actually have to go to Cambridge). I went on their website and it doesn't say what they sell. So what kind of things do they sell, and are they likely to have any flute stuff?

I've been in Brian Jordan's shop in Cambridge Nicki - they had to practically drag me away. It's a tradional music shop and seemed to have most things - the card I brought home with me states "printed music and music literature of all periods". The gentleman in the shop found a copy of a piece I needed - (unfortunately it was in the wrong key!) I would guess you'd find plenty to interest you - although I don't know where you need to spend your voucher - possibly either place.

I have also visited Brian Jordan's. It's a very quaint, tiny premises, traditional music supplies shop run by the owner himself. Yes, I'm sure he'll sell flute music but it's all very classical as I recall (can't say I ever saw much jazz etc in there - but it might have changed now, it's a while since I was there).

Personally, I'd give them a ring (if you can't visit) and see what they can do to help you if there are specific things you know you want.

Someone on this list who is more local could probably tell you more.

I don't remember seeing much jazz either, although I wasn't looking for it !

I expect you can find the phone number on the website Nicki, but let me know if you can't - I've got it - or you could e-mail. good idea I think to make contact.

We go to Cambridge fairly often (every couple of months) and while every time we've gone past the shop, I've never been brave enough to go in! It's not intimidating to anyone sensible, it's just a small shop, I've never seen other customers in there to hide behind, and I'd like to know if there was recorder music there before I went in and got laughed out because it's a 'serious proper' shop not for people like me smile.gif
Though I've just looked at the website and found out there is an upstairs, which is second-hand music. I think I may have to get my husband to hold my hand and come in with me next time we're there!

Given that Brian Jordan are putting trade stands at a number of Early Music events, I'd be absolutely staggered if they didn't sell recorder music, Maizie. And totally gobsmacked if they laughed at you for asking.

I deal with them regularly and they are VERY good. I go to them mainly for early music but they have a huge range of classical music, and anything they don't have they will get in for you. I have no idea if they do jazz but if you can give them specific titles they will order it.

I get most of my stuff from them mail order. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Its a real hotchpotch inside! Brian Jordan is excellent for Early Music, Academic editions, and a huge range of instrumental and vocal music. Particularly good for Church Music. The Jordans will even order stuff into you and post it to you.

Based in Green Street either turn Right at Sainsbury's opposite Sidney Sussex College, Turn Left at Hobbs, or go through Borders.

If you want more popular or jazz based stuff you go to Ken Stevens!

Well, I think I have to go to the trade stand. The voucher only lasts until June, and although I have relatives near Cambridge, I don't think we're planning to visit them before then!

Apparently I can find this trade stand on Saturday or Monday (although I am SURE it says somewhere Sunday)

If you get really stuck, some kind forumite who lives near the shop might be persuaded to buy them off you.

The problem is, they aren't vouchers as such. It is a letter saying that I (it has my name on it), as winner of the class get £25 worth of music.
Val_alto
There is also an amazing range of second hand music up the ricketty (sp?) stairs.

sad.gif That is more difficult.

Might be worth ringing up and explaining the situation. Maybe they would be willing to put the money towards a postal order if you sent them the letter (keep a copy wink.gif) - worth asking. A great shame if you miss out just because the shop is too far to get to easily.

If you can get to the trade show, if nothing else, just buy £25 worth of any music, heck, you can always sell it on ebay or something and then at least you haven't just missed out!!!

My family got very fed up waiting for me when I found my way into that shop. Heaven! rolleyes.gif
Shelf after shelf of recorder music, and I presume the other sections will be similar. The only thing I found a bit odd was that it was in numerical order of publisher's edition - so they had Schott's ed 1, then 2, then 3, etc - which made hunting for any particular composer, say, rather difficult. I guess you need a catalogue in there...

I know, when I sit and think about it I know they aren't going to laugh at me, after all, nobody ever has! It's not that the shop (any shop, any person, etc, etc) is actually scary, it's just that I'm...well...me biggrin.gif
anacrusis has confirmed in this thread that they have lots of recorder music...my husband has offered that we go to Cambridge tomorrow (I mentioned to him last night that by all accounts it's not a scary shop and he said that we hadn't been to Cambridge for a while and did I want to go for a poke round)...eep! Credit card to take a bashing, I fear rolleyes.gif
