Can any of you help?

How do the examiners mark the aural?

I have been looking at the recent marks. Several of my gr3 students have got A and D right and scored 14 or 15 marks and have slips in B and C over the past 2 years.

In the last week I received the past terms results, for one student they scored 12 with the same comments A and D correct, B slip and C found difficult. Do any of you think 12 is low for this?

Hi,

It depends slightly on how pear-shaped sections B and C went - that is the "echo" and
"spot the difference" sections respectively. When I give my pupils a mock aural exam, I try to mark them based on positive aspects, but try to balance these with "negative" aspects. For example, in section B of your pupils exams, they might have sung the echoes with incorrect pitches while retaining the pulse (and some rhythm). And as for section C, their is a 50/50 chance of spotting the correct difference (in the second playing), but also their is the aspect of describing the difference. However, I think that points are still up for grabs if a good reason is given, though I'm not entirely sure.

Hope this helps. wink.gif
