Hi all!
I'm trying to write a section in my piece where a flugel horn soloist is accompanied by various tuned percusion. - I want to create a warm and mellow feel, but have running semiquaver patterns in the vibraphone. Which stick and instrument combination would create the right effect? I am able to use 2 marimbas, glock, and tubular bells.

The lower register of the marimba with relatively soft sticks is really good if you're looking for a mellow sound. As long as the vibraphone is being played with soft sticks, it could sound warm and mellow as well. I'm not sure whether it's even possible for a glock to come under either of these categories!

You could have rolls/chords in the lower register of the marimba, with some sort of accompaniment on the vibe.
