I know some forumites have done or are doing this course. Just wondering what level of qualification/experience they expect you to have? - the details on the website were a bit vague

"Applicants will normally have received professional training, possess a recognised qualification in an instrument or voice, and will currently be teaching individual pupils or small groups. Those who do not hold a recognised qualification will be required to provide evidence of minimum standards of performance by submission of an authenticated audition tape, or by attending an interview and audition."

Thanks

It used to be more explicit that a licentiate level qualification was required, or performance at the level of a licentiate.

Hi, I am on this course. When I applied for it I was teaching around 25 students a week and only had Grade 8 piano. I was due to take the DipABRSM during the Mtpp Summer School and so I played one of my pieces to the Course Director who very kindly let me on. I think they are very keen to give people the opportunity to do the course, (it's very good and has certainly transformed my teaching) and so long as you are able to perfom something well, that's around Grade 8 - Diploma level I think you may be ok. The other thing was my degree is in business, not music and they still let me on. So contact the Course Director and go for it, I thoroughly recommend it!

Thanks, I will investigate further.. biggrin.gif

I'd love to do the course as well but I am concerned about how much time it takes up. I am currently in the final throws of completing the EPTA pedagogy course which has been good but I found the 2 assignments took up a lot of time + I don't seem to have had much time for anything else. I happen to know the course director as he was my mentor on the CTABRSM course but it would be good to hear the views of someone who is actually doing the course.

Hi. I wanted to resurrect this thread to find out if anyone knows roughly how much this course costs? It's something I might want to consider doing in the future. I can't seem to find the fees on their website:

I'm hoping that's because they are not on there, rather than I'm missing them. biggrin.gif

I'd love to hear any thoughts on the course from people who've completed it and perhaps gone on to complete the MA. I was eventually considering going for the ATCL Principles of Instrumental/Vocal Teaching and am wondering if that would be a good introduction to this course.

Thanks for any input, Lucid smile.gif

When I investigate it last year, it took them six months to provide me with the information, and by then, I'd gone off the idea and lost interest.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound very hopeful. This wouldn't be something I could do for a little while anyway, but was just curious how much it might cost.

I'm on the course at the moment. The best thing to do is to ring the office and they will provide you with a brochure containing lots of information. My experience so far has been the entry requirements have some degree of flexibility. smile.gif

Would they consider someone with my qualifications without an audition? My teaching dip is recent but the ALCM performing was over 20 years ago and my playing is not really up to audition level at the moment. Actually when I enquired about this course years ago they wouldn't accept ALCM without audition. Perhaps the rules have changed now unsure.gif

Hi Cambiata,

I had very similiar qualifications to you when I applied - a performance ALCM from 20 years ago and a recent teaching diploma (plus the CTABRSM) and I didn't have an audition. I believe at one time you needed an L level dip.

Hope that helps,
