Ok Barry Thain
It is called a Star in the East,it is the story from the burth of Jesus smile.gif to when Herod killed all the children sad.gif
the organ has got to have 2 of more manuels and some good reed sounds.
It has got 6 movements.
what else do you want to know?

Thanks
Ben again.

Thanks, Jungfrauenregalbass

Great title. (Challenging subject matter, though. I think I'd struggle to make much of the first 24 months Jesus spent in Egypt as a baby/toddler, let alone get a six-part, two hour long organ work out of it.)

What style is it in and could you say how difficult it is (which grade or diploma level do you think)?

Best wishes

It is not about Jesus in Egypt,it is of the wise men coming and then herod killing.
after they have ran to Egypt it has nothing more to do with Jesus it is not of what hapens in Egypt.
I don't know how difficult it is as I have not done any organ exams but I would say about grade 6/7.
I don't know what style it is,

Is it intended to be a concert work?

Where do you invisage the piece being played if you don't mind me asking?

David

Where ever the performer wants it to be played.

Can't really argue with that...

Although I can't imagine a grade 6/7 player having the stamina to play a 2hr long piece blink.gif

I know you say 'wherever the peformer wants it to be played', but most pieces are written an intended for a particular king of occasion.

Are you referring to organ pieces when you say this or any kind of music? I certainly do not compose my music with an occasion in mind.

Some organ music is written specifically for use in worship, while others are written as concert items. I assume that if the piece is 2 hours long, then it is not intended for use in worship?

David

No it is not intended for worship if it was there would be very long church services where I play the organ.

Ben again.
Barry Thain
A lot of organ music is written for specific types of organ and sometimes even specific organs in mind, and is barely playable on other organs.

Much other music is written for specific purposes, operas, oratorios, ballets, and so on. Plenty of composers have been commissioned to compose for specific events. Perhaps you will be too, one day smile.gif

Despite that, as David was writing about a piece of organ music in the organ forum it is not unreasonable to suppose he was talking primarily about organ music.

Yes - organ pieces. I'm giving up on this thread though!
David

I wish to congratulate you for finally talking sense!

Can the movements stand alone in a concert or must the whole piece be performed at once?

Also, did you set out to write an epic, or is that just how things ended up?

(No real reason for the questions .. just curious!)
