If I were to print this of (i am grade 1 piano) and begin to learn it AKA as a fun piece, by the time im oh say, Grade whatever would I be able to play this really well?
It'sa theory. I wanted too see your opinions, you know if you have tried something similair.
Do you think I should print it off and begin to learn it.
Also after or before my exam (which is in June) should I start. If I begin before won't it you know, throw me off course of my pieces which are almost perfect because I wont be practsing them as much because of this piece. So do you think I should attemt to play, learn, and by the time im grade whatever i should be almsot perfect with this piece. If you think it is a good idea, should I start before or after my exam (havent got a date but in June)

Good to play hard stuff for fun: I do it all the time, but get bored with it, so put it down. It then disappears under a pile for a few months. I then discover it again, have a bash through it, and it's alright for a bit, and then I put it down, and it disappears under a pile of stuff again. And the cycle continues.

Well, I've done said idea a few times before, so why not? My brother can play the first section of Moonlight Sonata, 3rd Movement - i.e. the one off Smurfs really well, and he doesn't even play piano! tongue.gif

Of course, not a sufficient reason for one to say you can 'play piano' as someone may ask you to play something else: but seeing as you are taking up the piano anyway, what harm can it do?

As for learning it before the exam/after the exam - really it's for you to decide whether you'd become obsessed with the piece or not - if you can play it to keep you entertained whilst maintaining the other pieces, then I'm sure it's fine. smile.gif

My teacher tells me it's ok and fun to 'experiment' so I guess go ahead! party1.gif

It is the first piece I remember from childhood (I used to like it a lot as a child) so I will learn it too one day (busy with other stuff at present wink.gif)
have fun

I would suggest only having a go at it before the exam if you're going to keep up with your other peices as well.

Also, be prepared not to be able to play it to begin with. The piece is meant to go excessively fast, and despite being all chromatics can be tricky to get the fingers round. I'm learning it on flute atm and I'm working for grade 7, but still struggling with this piece. Personally I wouldn't attempt it on piano yet (am also doing grade 1 this term) but if you have nothing better to do then it's worth a shot.

If you love the piece, and have the patience then I would definitely give it a go.

Obviously, you aren't expecting to be able to play it at tempo, or fluently, so even if you can reproduce the first bar slowly I imagine you will be very proud of yourself! smile.gif

After your exam, I would ask you teacher to write some fingering in for you, and with this one you'll find that there are a lot of sequences, so identifying these will make it easier, especially if you're not used to reading all those leger lines.

Have fun smile.gif

probably. if you worked at it. it isn't all that hard to play [just had a look at it] but it would be quite difficult to get it up to speed.

I think if you like it, and want a challenge, go for it. There's nothing holding you back.
Go out and have fun, especially with the semi or demisemiquavers in the flight of the bumblebee
