Hi,

I'm playing the 2004 grade 6 pieces at the moment and no matter how hard I try I can;t get Pescetti's "Allegro" to sound like anything more than a string of notes sad.gif

Does anyone have any advice? It is a fun piece to play and I don't want to give up on it

Thanks

im playing that piece aswell, and to me it just sounds like a string of notes! listening to the CD with the grade 6 pieces on is quite good because it has some dynamics ect. see if you can get a copy of it. just add some of your own dynamics and things! it suggests that you play the quavers lightly detached to.

I had that problem with that piece too- in the end I didn't take the exam for that exact reason... !!!
My teacher couldn't make anything of it either- I think it's just a rather monotonous piece wink.gif

Aaarrgh rolleyes.gif don't remind me.

That piece was the bane of my life for about 9 months... I just couldn't get it. I was forever stumbling over the notes and fluffing up the massive leaps in the middle bit.

When I finally took the exam (this February) I thought I'd fail that piece, but surprisingly... I got 23 cool.gif . Beats me how I managed that, maybe the examiner nodded off or something... But it's a lovely little piece, anyway. Good luck Catrin! smile.gif

If any of you are wind players might I suggest you tweak the articulation as if you were blowing the melody? No long legato passages but plenty of variety and let the dynamic rise and fall with the melody. All of my students who have offered this piece have done very well using this approach. Hope this helps.

It's quite easy actually....got 26 for it biggrin.gif last year. I really enjoyed playing it. At the right hand leaps, just lift up your hand and go to the next note quickly(you are allowed to accent it, and it sounds better too)
And when it is developing, like B, G, C, G, D, G, E, G get louder. I hope that helps!

Thanks everyone - I tried playing it on the clarinet, Bagpuss, (my first instrument) and i found that where the breaths fell split it into phrases which were much shorter than I'd been trying.
