Not happy. sad.gif Was making a cake and caught my right index finger in the blender (don't ask how!) and now can't play any instruments for a week. Then I'm going for a back operation next Tuesday and still won't be able to play for a while. I'm so frustrated - IT'S NOT FAIR!!!

p.s. it's so hard typing with my left hand!
jo.clarinet
You poor thing! I'm so sorry - hope your finger recovers sooner than expected!

Jo

Urgh! Well, at least that's your daily serving of iron. tongue.gif

Take care of the finger and don't over-work it, or else it might just take much longer to recover than expected, as liebe_klavier said. I now how you feel about practice withdrawal though. sad.gif

Get well soon!
That's a rotten thing to happen.
missfabflute
omg! sad.gif

at least you didnt lose your finger totally!! *phew*

get well soon + look foward to playing more music! smile.gif

Do you use Arnica to help with healing? It's worth a go, I've found it fairly miraculous in the past.

And by the way, which finger??
I get my violin students to work on tone with Amazing Grace if they arrive with an injured left hand finger as if you start on D string the melody dosn't need (violin) finger 2....if it's a different finger just transpose...
Rambi
my dad won't let me to do ANYTHING that puts my fingers in danger.... including cutting bread.... ohmy.gif

I remember once trying to play the flute with one of my fingers bandaged up (I use to bend fingers back all the time when playing basketball in school). It was just about managable but I kept catching one of the trill keys. Saying that, correct me if anyone has found a way, but playing the recorder with wrapped fingers is impossible~ you just can't cover the holes properly.

Perhaps those of us with a tendancy to mutilate our fingers should just try learning the trombone, I mean, I think you could probably manage to play that with half your hand tied together!
James Brookmyre
Well grant yourself lucky..... i am a professional musician and i broke my hand the day before a major concert at the proms.....it wasn;t as though i was even a common violin (sorry to all you violinists! tongue.gif ).

and to any of you that have heard Dvorak New World Symphony...... i had the major COR ANGLAIS SOLO!!!!!
Appassionata
Thanks to everyone for their advice and support. Arnica is certainly very good! I am now able to play the violin as I can hold the bow without using my index finger - but clarinet and sax are a bit more tricky at the moment. I been working on left hand scales on the piano - they will be the best they've ever been at this rate!

I wish you all the best James Brookmyre and hope your hand gets better soon.

Ouch - poor Appassionata ohmy.gif - I really hope your finger gets better soon..

I know just how you feel - I had a pretty horrific accident a few years ago, where I ripped my left middle finger on a fence. 3 days in hospital, a general anaesthetic and 12 stitches later...

It's still numb and sort of weird and tingly, but miraculously I still have 80-90% of my prebious ability left and I suppose it could have been a lot worse (the cut just missed a tendon by a millimetre). The damage is nerve damage plus a tendency to achiness and stiifness just before it rains heavily - a great built-in barometer!

Hope you get better soon anyway.

how is your 'blended finger' doing eh?
back in '95 i had not one, but two ingrown fingernails! ohmy.gif they hurt like sin! anyway, i had to get them both removed and i was out of action for a few months. so i do sympathise with you.
wish u better.
Appassionata
Hello. "Blended" finger is much better thanks. However had an operation on my back yesterday, so can't really move that much at the moment. Hopefully i'll be back playing asap. I've just bought a new soprano sax and I'm itching to play it!
liebe_klavier
just take care....and u'll be fine...

Bit off topic but I broke my clavicle in a judo lesson a while ago and it does that too...any knowledge as to why?

lol...

I have developed the most awful joint problems so it really hurts to play violin and piano because it's all in my fingers and wrists and elbows and shoulders and I've spent the summer in and out of hospital...

We're not such a healthy lot here are we?!? biggrin.gif

I can't stand up without excruciating pain. I have a family history of exercise addiction, and today proved the doctors right for going for a run with a sore back. Not sensible, since now I'll have to sit while practising, and rest my saxophone on the chair!
