I attended a recent BBC Play It Again event at Watford - me on Tuba and my daughter on flute. I decided to have a go mainly because I'd had the chance, as an exhibitor, to see a small part of the event that was run at Cambridge. Everyone seemed to be having so much fun that I decided it was worth the 50 mile treck to get to the Colosseum at Watford.
It was huge fun.

The beeb went to a lot of trouble to make it inclusive bearing in mind that for each session they have to cope with some 200-300 members of the public at all stages of musical development from ground zero upwards. We ended up performing what Tim Steiner titled, "Not Tonight" - an arrangement from Bernstein's West Side Story.
I took a portable recorder and captured it all as part of an audio diary, so if anyone's interested to hear how it is run, possibly because they've signed up for a future event, they can do so. This forms part of a podcast for our local music school, the
Huntingdonshire Music School and the home page for the podcast is at

- you don't need an iPod to listen - it can be played from a browser window, downloaded, subscribed-to using iTunes software or whatever floats your listening boat.
If anyone has been to one of the BBC Play It Again events and is willing to provide some feedback, particularly audio feedback, I'd be more than willing to include it in a future episode - the e-mail address is humsaloudATgooglemail.com (remembering to substitute the 'AT')
