I'll try to keep my work diary free for the 30th, I'll attempt to get the day off once the date is confirmed.

I'd be more than happy to take part in a similar event for clarinets or saxophones where I'd be much more in my comfort zone.

Flute day would be wonderful flute.gif

Apparently Fleet is not too far from where I am! I'd definitely be interested if I'm not working.

It's a Trevor James one, and it currently has a straight headjoint, but I'll need to get a curved one. It's not 100% mine yet, it's on approval, but eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Well, after various consultations and checking the availability of the hall, the date I'm intending to go with is Thursday 30th August. A weekend date just wasn't possible for various reasons, so apologies to those of you who are working during the week. Because of the level of interest for this type of event, I hope that we might be able to sort out a weekend event at some other time.

It would be nice to do something similar at a weekend in 2008 (and not necessarily just with flutes, how about a strings day, or a clarinet day?). August is one of those months that has a tendency to be 'awkward' with people going away etc. (which is why I'm really pleased we've got a date for Northern Ireland next year sorted out really early). If your August fluting festival is a success (and I'm sure it will be biggrin.gif), a weekend date with bags of notice beforehand would I think be great, yes. smile.gif

At the moment for August 30th, my situation is 'might well be able to do something with it, but will confirm with you a bit nearer the time'. My problem is that my August is absolutely jammed solid with things to do.......

Oooo, and I'll change the calendar....

The original intention was for a low-key event to try out my (I hope) new purchases. I really wasn't expecting the level of interest this has generated. hence the August date - more possibilities - and the relatively short notice. I went for the last week to avoid the Market Harborough meeting the previous week - if lots of people are returning to school/college that week I may have to think again.

I *think* Scotland/Northern Ireland go back earlier than England/Wales Andante, and both will have returned to school, I believe, by 30/8, where England/Wales won't have done.
Rosemary7391
Nope, we in Oxfordshire at least won't go back til the 6th of September, around then...

30th... If theres public transport around I could possibly get there, so long as I could get back for work at 5..

Oh wait, I still don't own or play a flute! rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

Could you add me to the list as well please. Not in position to choose a day, so whatever it's set for I'll try and make it smile.gif

This looks like a fantastic day andante_in_c! I would love to come just to listen cos the flutes at Leicester made such an impression on me. If there's any way I can get away for a couple of days, I'll try and come.

I'd suggest having a flute day here in Leeds but there aren't many flooty-people in this area sad.gif

Judging by the response I've had you might find some! I'll add you as a possible. Katyjay is coming partly as a spectator/helper as well (although she'll play if she can remember the fingerings).

If I am at home I will come but I may be nabbing that week away with a girl chum (holiday resort requirements = sun, pool, fit-blokes-with-big-wallets). Will keep you posted.

After talking to Andy-piano-flute I'm going to see if an alternative date would work. If you have an expressed an interest in coming, could you let me know if you could come on either Thursday 23rd August or Thursday 30th August, and, if you could manage either date, which would be easier for you.

Please email, pm or reply on this thread. I'll see which date looks the best.

Just a thoguht - the 23rd is the day GCSE results come out! I don't know how many flautists would be affected by that though.

I think most, if not all of those who have expressed an interest are past GCSE stage. Ironically I'm probably the most affected as No 3 son gets his results that day. smile.gif

The date for the flute choir day is now Thursday 23rd August.

Apologies to anyone who could do 30th but not 23rd (sorry Bev). It's just going to work better on the 23rd I feel, for a number of reasons.

I'll be starting a thread with booking details in the next few days. The closing date for this will be two weeks before the actual day: Thursday 9th August.

Still haven't booked our holiday (which is sort-of dependant on a deadline my hubbie has at work, which keeps getting shifted), so at least now I have a date to beg for the holiday not to clash with!! Failing that, I may petition to holiday somewhere near the end of the M40 so that I can still come along biggrin.gif

We are still looking at this, it depends now on cost, the thing we had on on the 23rd doesn't look like it's going to happen.

andante_in_c
I will be posting a link to a booking form as soon as I have found some energy to do some sorting out. Probably not until next week now.

Meanwhile, the day is definitely going ahead on 23rd August, and the hall is booked. There will be a latish closing date, so there will be plenty of time to get your applications in. I expect to wind things up at around 5.00 or so, Sarah, but there may well be an opportunity for a meal for those who can stay on.
sarah-flute
OK Andante, thanks biggrin.gif - hope you manage to catch up with yourself, having no energy is no fun sad.gif

Hmmm, the 23rd is better for me as it happens! I'm going to be in the region the prior weekend visiting friends in Somerset, and it seems a shame to be so near and not come smile.gif It is Fleet near Weymouth isn't it? I'd only be coming to listen and to help out where I can, but it sounds like a really good day so I'd like to come if I can.
