I'm taking my Grade 6 exam next week and I'm so so nervous. So, for the aural part, do I need to to clap the rhythm of a short extract played twice by the examiner from the above piece and state
whether it is in 2, 3, or 4 time ? I doing the 2005-2006 syllabus and my teacher didn't mention about that part.

Are you sure you're doing the 2005/06 syllabus? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are in the UK you should be playing pieces from the 2007/08 syllabus.

Are you sure you're doing the 2005/06 syllabus? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are in the UK you should be playing pieces from the 2007/08 syllabus.
You can use the syllabus from 2006 up until Easter of 2007. After that you have to use the new syllabus.
You do have to clap the rhythm for grade 6 - its part of the last test - the examiner plays a piece of music and asks you questions about it, then he plays a short extract from it and you have to clap the rhythm and then state if its in 2, 3 or 4 time.

flute fanatic - examiners will only accept pieces on the current syllabus. The 2006 syllabus ended in April in the UK.

I ask my teacher about this today and she phoned another teacher about it. She said that only a small amount of students was asked to clap and state the time. So, I guess it's ok then.
Two things: firstly, I think Eleanor is a non-UK candidate, and is therefore able to offer the 05-06 syllabus until the end of this year.
Secondly, Eleanor, yes, you will be asked to clap back the rhythm and state the time. I've never know a candidate not to be. What you are clapping is the rhythm of the extract, not the pulse as in Grades 1-3. So, for example, if the extract is in 2/4 time and the examiner plays the following:
Crotchet quaver quaver l dotted crotchet quaver l quaver quaver crotchet l minim l
then that is what you will clap back, after he/she has finished playing it twice. Remember that this extract is taken from the piece you have already heard in full and answered questions on. It's often easier to tell whether it is in 2, 3 or 4 time from listening to the whole piece rather than the extract, so think about this as well as the topics the examiner has told you you'll be questioned on.
