Are you sure you're doing the 2005/06 syllabus? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are in the UK you should be playing pieces from the 2007/08 syllabus.
You can use the syllabus from 2006 up until Easter of 2007. After that you have to use the new syllabus.
You do have to clap the rhythm for grade 6 - its part of the last test - the examiner plays a piece of music and asks you questions about it, then he plays a short extract from it and you have to clap the rhythm and then state if its in 2, 3 or 4 time.
