I wondered if anyone knew the logic of the exam code numbers for the various instruments when one enters for an exam. Piano and strings are 01-05 I think, flute is 09? and so on... but there are various gaps... I wonder if there have been instruments or subjects which used to be examined and are not any more? Are the numbers in the order the exams were introduced in those subjects? Anyone know?

Just a random wonder...

Sarah, perhaps you could post a list of all the codes for those who do not know them smile.gif

There are quite a lot of them......... ohmy.gif

But there is a list at the bottom of page three of the entry form which is available online here.

pianoboe: the codes are what whoever is entering for the exam uses to say which instrument(s) they are entering for, ie 56 is jazz flute, 09 is flute, I think oboe is 10 or 11, etc etc. The numbers appear in the syllabus.

Ok, thanks (especially as you included oboe! laugh.gif )

I've often wondered about that, too.
The gaps seem to big to ever have been filled by other instruments, though.

They do. Maybe they left big gaps between sections (ie, strings and piano are close together, so are wind, so are all the jazz ones) so that they had places to slot things in neatly later?? unsure.gif

They're waiting for a sackbutt revival biggrin.gif Or crumhorns, or shawms, or any of those other strangely-named but wonderful instruments!

I hope they issue ear defenders to the examiners in that case. Especially for shawm exams. wacko.gif
