Weigh at the start of the week.

Who's in on this with me??

Miss Ross
Are you also going on holiday by any chance?
I'm doing trying to do all of those things already (apart from the alcohol bit obviously), so can I be counted in?
Good luck! biggrin.gif

Count me in smile.gif I've been doing this kind of thing since January and have lost two stone so far, but need a bit of a push to get it going again - exercise is the key! (and banning cashew nuts!!)

Have been very lazy thus far this week, so my exercise plan for the week is: long fast walk tomorrow (Weds), gym Friday and maybe swim Sunday. Some of my friends ran the "Race for Life" on Sunday and are now aiming for the 10 km charity runs around October time. I'd like to think I could even contemplate running 2 km - at the moment I think I'd collapse after 500 m sad.gif

Yep I think I'll join!! I'm actually underweight, but I want to be more healthy smile.gif

Going back to the get-fit thing

-hands off my alcohol: I have very long weekends laugh.gif .
-breathless three times a week - does doing housecalls to the fourth floor of a tenement count? I do try to go ice skating twice a week, but I'm missing a third...
-do the healthy diet stuff anyway, at any rate if I'm not in the US attending family weddings
-can't start this Monday, having only seen it on Tuesday, does that matter?
The Old Lady
Jump in when ever you like.
The weight thing is not an issue, but the fitter thing is. You may lose a few pounds, or stones, well done Hazel, as a byproduct.
Alcohol at the weekends means no one feels hard done by, and cheats. You can look forward to Friday, like I am.................longingly. Salivating every time I see a bottle of wine in the kitchen cupboard or under the stairs wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif
I was so good last night. We went to see Ben Taylor. There was a bar. I had a diet coke before the concert, and A CUP OF TEA, in the interval blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif Barry thought i was ill laugh.gif laugh.gif

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of 'keep fit things' do you all like doing, and find it relatively easy to fit in?
The Old Lady
I walk to school with the youngest instead of driving.
Gardening.
Jogging.
Tennis.
Stairs instead of escalator.
Bev.

I think that I am quite fit. i walk ponies a lot and ride them a lot and don't drink often. Probably less than six times a year. My blood pressure is 110 over 60 usually but there is just too much of me! All was well until an op ten years ago when the weight piled on slowly but surely. So I'll join in too and try to keep the the less of everything diet. smile.gif
Alicia Ocean
Yesterday I started running my with my friend - just 20 mins round the park (quite enough). We've made a vow to meet on Saturday to do it again. Hopefully it will be Mondays and Saturdays from now on (not ideally spaced but it's because of her job). I shall try to find another activity to do in between too.
melody_maker
I have to say - I'm not into doing much healthy stuff - a lot of it triggers asthma attacks. But I do ocassionally visit the gym, and I eat healthily. I don't really have much choice, because certain things afftect asthma and I have to watch what I eat a lot because of big problems with blood sugar levels etc.
lucky045
Me! I'm putting it off til after exams, but I do need something!

Ummm... might a little bit of dieting be ok? If it's healthy dieting?
Miss Ross
Last year I got into the habit of going out for a run in the morning, but this year I haven't done so, mainly because there were two of us last year. I might give it a go again though. I haven't been to my dancing class since the exams started, so perhaps I'll go back this week. There are various things we can do at school too, but I don't like the feeling that everyone's watching you, so as ideal as one of those classes would be, somehow I don't think I'll be going back!

...Plenty of stairs to run up and down though!

I'm not really sure what the difference is (?) ph34r.gif
lucky045
When I diet... it's because I'm scared of getting fatter... I usually eat healthily.. but the bare minimum of all the food groups... chocolate/crisps/alcohol/chips etc gone...

Carbs significantly lowered.
Fat cut out as far as possible without getting rid of protein too...
etc...
lots of salads... but it's just healthy eating really...

I swim after school, I'll just do that a bit more... that'll help.
The Old Lady
By dieting I mean, no bread , potatoes or pasta diets, OR no meat/fish, OR The Atkins (Smelly), or special things to eat. They work, but as soon as you stop, you pile it back on. A lowish fat, lowish calorie diet, ie Healthy eating is best, with an increase in calorie expenditure ie Exercise.
Was so good last night, no wine, no cheese and biscuits, even when his nibs was having some. I need a halo.

Dancing: I go to a modern dance class once a week, it's amazing how the shape of your body changes as you use the muscles properly. Also dance vids, especially if they are divided into neat chunks so you can choose to do just one. I have to use ballet shoes to dance on my carpet though or I'd end up with carpet burns on my feet!

Walking: around the block, down into town, to friends' houses.

Climbing the stairs/doing step-ups.

Yogalates: when I tried pilates I managed to hurt myself ohmy.gif and yoga is not exactly much exercise or very inspiring to do on your own! I have found yogalates a nice in between.

I sympathise to an extent: aerobic exercise can make my ME nose dive, so I have to be careful. ie the strength, control elements of my dance class are fine, stuff that is basically aerobic (travelling and stepping patterns) I sit out of.

I'm actually not doing particularly well... but walking to school, walking/jogging up the hill behind my house or down to the park, running round the school field at lunch time like a mad thing rolleyes.gif .

And hopefully next weekend I'll do quite a bit of swimming, we're staying at a campsite with a pool and I dance quite a lot when I go away with the folk group and often randomely polka round the house ph34r.gif

Really wish I could go to a dance class, but the only one in my area clashes with orchestra sad.gif

I just got back from walking round our village with some friends. I did get out of breath, but only from laughing so much!

Why don't you start your own? All you need is a place (such as your front room or an empty classroom at lunch), some music and some enthusiastic friends. That's what I did, and some of the teachers started to come along too smile.gif.

The healthy eating part - well, I can't really eat anything at the moment, so I'm surviving on water and natural yoghurt...

hehe sounds fun... yeah, there were lots of laughs at lunch time... then I ended up on the floor with my shoes quite a way away. Not sure *quite* how that happened blink.gif

Good idea about the dancing, will think about that one smile.gif

And as for the polka-ing... it's become a bit of an obsession now I can do it... and I sometimes polka round with my friends. But most of them can't polka... I was trying to teach my friend the other day outside the music block... bad idea. very bad idea tongue.gif

Hope you're feeling better soon smile.gif I actually have quite a healthy diet and don't eat that much. Which always surprises people when they see me... let's say I'm not exactly skinny. wink.gif
The Old Lady
So...........how's everyone doing. I was very good last week in what I ate, BUT we had our anniversary and Father's day meals. I had been sensible, but at the weigh in I was the same as last week. I am doing this with my friend over the road. She had lost 1 pound smile.gif
We started jogging on Sunday, well, that was a brisk walk to get going. Same this morning, but did bursts of running . We shall build that up now until we can run the whole distance, and then lengthen the circuit.
I was so naughty last night though........had roast pork, and ate a large chunk of crackling sad.gif

Oh Bev I can sympathise me and my mum (also called Bev wacko.gif ) had steak and potato wedges on Fathers day blush.gif (ok and garlic mayo dip and peppercorn sauce - and dont even mention the deserts)

But other than that i have been doing quite well - cant swim though as my local pool is closed with a leak laugh.gif

Just wanted to mention to anyone doing alot of excerise - don't weigh your self if you can help it - muscle weighs more than fat and you will build the muscle underneath your fat first - essentially making you bigger for a little while. So stay off those scales for a while! wink.gif

When I started rowing when I was 13, I started at 9 1/2 st. Went down to 9 st. Then climbed to 10 st, but at that stage had a washboard tummy, and calves to die for. Oh those were the days sad.gif

Possibly Bev if you are excersising - but its a good thing, the more muscle you build, the quicker you will burn fat in the long run. Dont go to mad though you dont want to end up like this ......

I went running on Saturday & Monday morning and Wednesday evening - with my friend - who is now complaining of a dodgy knee and so "could we give this Saturday a miss?"- and "could we not do Wednesdays evenings as I find it a bit of a rush what with having to make tea".. erm, I guess I could run round the park on my own, but

I am still coping, mainly on the diet side, but my diet has become slowly more and more relaxed... It started off as 500 calories a day plus all the salad I want... that lasted only two days... so now I'm just doing the healthiness thing, swimming and not eating junkfood... hope it helps!

How is everyone else doing?
PianoSecrets-x
I've decided i'm going to buy a skipping rope this weekend, and start skipping for 30mins a day. I started going running round the park with my mum, but i find running really tedious, so i stopped tongue.gif

No more chocoloate for me from monday either! (don't know whether that will actually happen though ... i'm slightly addicted to it!! tongue.gif )

I am supposed to be trying to lose weight – I need to lose about 20 kilos. I have been working morning, afternoon and evening non stop for three weeks plus two weekends in a row and there’s a third one coming up. (Exams, concert, school fête) Last five evenings arrived home at 9 pm to find my partner had cooked: spaghetti bolognese
Jamaican style curry
paella (don’t think that’s the way to spell it)
choux croûte
and last but not least I was presented with steak and chips “Because you look so tired.” I have also been told that as soon as I break up I am being taken to the restaurant to celebrate.

I give up!!!
Fantasia in P major
I NEED to join in too!

And the reason is after joining the gym and going x3 weekly have still managed to put on 4 lbs!

It's obviously muscle tone but my jeans don't believe me.
sarah-flute
Well I lost almost half a stone in 5 days.

I don't recommend getting the necessary nasty bug to achieve this... ill.gif

Be nice if I can keep some of it off though!
