hi i have just been given a lovely large keyboard so have been the local and only semi music shop and bought a couple of teach yourself piano books

i play flute to grade three so far so can read music but not a bass clef the books are michael aaron piano course and the classic piano course by carol barratt

i would be interested to know has anyone used these books before and how they got on also what books are helpful

Yay - sounds like fun!

I like the carol barratt books in general, but havn't used the one you mentioned. I do however use the Michael Aaron for my adult students. Its a great book and one of the best I've found for older students.

It does however leap on a bit quick all of a sudden in places, where you may need to look at other pieces of the same level before moving on, and uses American terminology like 8th notes etc.

Just don't get me started on the Grasshopper!!!! *shudders* mellow.gif

Other than that they're good books!

I would reccomend Chester Books too - always good fun!

I've used Classic Piano Course a number of times and like it - but it does move quite quickly, especially after page 20. All students I've used it with have needed extra material by about the middle of the book.
