Hey, this is my first post of the drum board. My brother wants to take up the drums, he already plays guitar, but we don't have much room for them so he was thinking of getting a digital kit, the one that looks like a hob:), does anyone have any experience of these and could recommend a good one.

Hey!
another violin/percussionist! Although digital kits save space, they can be quite problematic if something goes wrong with the set up. Personally i prefer the actual drum and you can improvise on any part of it, not only the skin but i do understand that space is an issue!
Sorry I can't be of any help for getting one!

Personally, I don't think that digital kits are anywhere near as a good as the real thing. If you're going to buy a digital kit, then the only ones that are even close to a normal kit are really expensive and are set up like a normal drum kit, therefore they take up the same amount of space.

Interesting... I don't play drums (but I would love to!!) and my son has just started lessons and we were thinking what to do with pracitising if we don't own the kit. So what you guys are saying is "Go for the real one" if the space allows it, isn't it? It may have to be very early Christmas present and we have to clear a room up a bit...
I can't wait to get my hands on!!!

Yep, I would definitely recommend a real one over an electronic one!

Electronic kits and acoustic kits are basically two different instruments...

Electric kits have all sorts of fancy sounds and things, and tracks to play along to, but as instruments I think the people before me have valid points.
I would not normally speak with authority in this forum, but I have been spending the last two weeks on work experience in a music shop, and I spent quite a bit of time with drums!

Just a quickie to let you know that we have borrowed a set of drum kit for next 2 weeks. My son is doing quite well, I think, but when I try all these different rhythms he has been taught, I can't co-ordinate everything easily!!!
And what fun!

and such a loud noise (well, "sound" I should say...)
Worried about neighbours...

Hi, i would recomend that if you had access to an acoustic kit that you could use, you should buy a digital kit. purely through preference, they are more pricey but after all they are neighbour friendly! haha, i have a digital kit (set me back a lot) but if you have the pads like roland make instead of the rubber pads the electric kits are great!
well not much help but hey haha!
