Hiya every1. strictly speaking I'm not a singer although I sing in both school choirs and have occasionally sung solos within them. I play piano and violin, (both outside school) but because I am doing GCSE music I can have one free lesson a week in school. I thought about taking singing lessons when I first had the option of free lessons, at the beginning of last year but was too shy to take them.
I can't sing on my own in front of people easily at all, my voice goes quiet and wobbly n sumtimes my throat siezes up all thogether, even when its just oral in front of my piano/violin teachers. This is partly what has stopped me taking singing lessons coz I'm scared I would go in and just not be able to make a sound. A lso now I've started to think seriously about it I wonder if I shud bother because I would maby only get onbe term of lessons in this year.
Any advice welcome

Go for it. When I started I was really nervous, and didn't want even my teacher to hear me singing too. It was awful. However a year later I took Grade 6.

You obviously enjoy singing - give it a go. I have a new teacher now, who does things very differently to my old teacher, and it's so exciting!

I am leanring many new things, and trying to get rid of bad habits, eg taking a deep breath before singing. (it produces a more breathy tone if you do that, and after all, we don't take a big breath before we speak do we?) I'd never thought about it like that before, but it makes a real difference!

And she's making me sing out too - maybe you have a big voice inside you as well. Have a lesson or two and see if you can discover it.... and enjoy! rolleyes.gif

I'm grade 8 standard, constantly performing solos and always, everytime, get stage fright. However, you soon realise everything is worth it so I would advise you to take it, even for one term as it will improve technical skills.

Ah do it! When I went for my audition I was so nervous I'd never heard the voice that left my throat before (and come to think of it, haven't since rolleyes.gif ) but he liked it and took me on!

Go for it! I used to think I couldn't sing at all, and if I tried it everyone would laugh at me, etc etc... then I actually started lessons, with this really great teacher, and got Grade 3 in less than a year. I'm now Grade 5 and sing the occasional solo. Stage fright never really goes away, but the more you perform, the less you get it. Good luck singing smile.gif

Hi Purple Pianist!

Go for it. I only wish I'd had the chance to have lessons when I was at school - I didn't start until I was 35!

Cheers

You might find that having lessons gives you that confidence you need!
