Hi,

I have been asked to take part in a concert in a few weeks by a family friend. I have asked my friend to take part in it with me and play some duets. My main instrument is clarinet, and there is a few pieces we could probably play in it.

However, my friend mentioned saxophone, bearing in mind the concert is only about 4 weeks away, can anyone recommend a book with duets in which arent too hard to learn in this time?

You could try this book

http://www.oup.co.uk/isbn/0-19-322367-8

I know it was written as a companion to a sax tutor book, so the duets should start fairly easy and progress in difficulty. I think some of the pieces are on the Music Medals syllabus. The CD is recorded with one part on each channel, so if you turn the speaker adjustment all the way to the left you just get one part, all the way to the right just the other which is a help when you're practising.

Other places I can think of looking are saxtetpublications.com and astute-music.com but looking at the duets on those sites they may be a bit more diffcult than you were hoping for.

I have some of these jazz books for clarinet, alto sax and trumpet:

http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/store/smp_de...106314110167936

They're part of a growing number of books where each book is written for two clarinets or two sax etc, BUT the songs are the same and interchangeable. So if you have the clarinet and the sax book, you can play a duet, each person choosing either the first or second part to play.

The website has an example, but PM me if you want to see any more and I'll email a scan.

Also, you could look around for simpler duets, even recorder music. Just remember to transpose correctly if the sax is an alto! wink.gif

That's a good suggestion from Tsax --- part of a good series of sax books.

How about: Easy Jazz Duets - saxophones James Rae
and Astutemusic too [Tsax said it again!] the Quartet series 'Saxophone Duets' book 1 says it's Grade 4-6 but check the website and if necessary email for advice from Andy Scott.

There is also a series "Making the Grade Together" Chester Music with duets for Clarinet and Alto Sax.

good luck
