I have my A2 final music exam tomorrow (AQA) and I am so scared - everything I know is going out of my head rapidly. I really want to do well but I'm really panicking!

Sorry I just had to get that off my chest!
nicki_flute
Ditto, the first of my 3 music exams but Edexcel.

I'm so stressed about it - it's the subject I am least likely to get the A I need in...I want Durham so badly.
recorderzrule
Wahey more panicking people! Ooh good opportunity for a club - the 'Let's panic about music exams club'.

dry.gif Not looking forward to tomorrow but never mind. Think positive...

Hm it's not working...
magicflute
The secret is I really want an A too, even though I don't need one...but will I do it this year? Judging by my concentration levels -no!

I also have an english retake tomorrow - which I really wish I hadn't bothered with but I only got a D last time so thought I ought to give it a go.

Recorderrulez - are you with AQA? Are you doing Stravinsky or Prokofiev. I'm doing Prokofiev.

Good luck anyone else - I think I'll report back tomorrow
recorderzrule
Hi, I'm with Edexcel like Nicki

Well the Chorale wasn't too bad actually. How was everyone else?
nicki_flute
The BC was the hardest one I've ever done. And I really messed it up. So I won't be going to Durham.
magicflute
I think I messed mine up too! It was sooooo hard! But I think my english exam was better than last time
Lixandreth
I thought my Bach Chorale exam wasn't too bad but it's probably my strongest area. I worked backwards from the end which I'm thankful for because the first cadence was a complete beehutch. sad.gif If I'd gone straight into that I'd have had a right panic!! My modulations were a bit awkward but ah well.

The first one was a bit weird as I thought it was in A but thought it was a bit early to change key but I stuck with it anyway. It was pretty ok all in all with some pretty obvious cadences I thought. It's just the bits in between the cadences that I find difficult to do but managed it today. Not too bad hopefully.

Sorry to hear yours didn't go so well Nicki sad.gif Had a very quick glance and it didn't look nice just from the opening! Chin up anyway and wow them on Monday!! biggrin.gif

I went into A there too, one of my friends did an interrupted cadence in D I think...I don't think it really matters as long as it sounds ok! I had a few dodgy chords and some rather dubious modulations...trying to get into A major from B minor was not fun...it sounded awful!! But it seemed a nicer paper than several of the past ones we've done...there have been some really weird ones where it's impossible to tell which key it's in, so at least with this one it could fit into several keys smile.gif
Good luck to everyone with exams! My last ones are the music listening & anthology on monday...can't wait until it's over!!

It was just so hard to continue, and usually that makes me feel happy, because I can usually get started ok.

But I couldn't, and in the end wrote anything. I cried as soon as I came out.

*gives up*

And I have not done much anthology revision, so bang goes going to Durham.
nicki_flute
I think BC+performance throughout course is 15%

I went back and cadenced in D before going to A major after the Bm phrase. Oh well, so glad it's over. Not really looking forward to the written as my essays aren't wonderful.

Yea my friend said today that this exam was only worth 7% or something so don't worry just yet.
nicki_flute
7% of the whole A Level...

I don't know of anyone else who did the BC, so maybe it's just me being stupid.

QUOTE(noodle @ Jun 19 2007, 08:33 PM) *

I suppose it could be worse. Do your best with anthology revision and don't give up! You have plenty of time to prepare for it so try and et as many marks as poss!

Yea just do your best with the time you've got now, try to forget about today and focus on Monday smile.gif you'll do great. Don't kiss Durham goodbye yet!
I've just though loads are going to Durham from my school, it seems to be very popular. My friend is going to do music there and was pretty stressed about today but I think we were all just trying to chill and focus on Monday because that's the main thing for A2.

Hey,

Just for those of you stressing abuot exams with Edexcel - if I remember the rough breakdown of marks that my teacher told me correctly...

The Bach Chorale is worth about 12% of A2 (so 6% of WHOLE A level) ..

and the recital+performances is worth 45% of A2 so DON'T be stressing about this silly exam today.

I'm not so good at it either and in fact have NEVER actually completed a whole one until the exam today but there's no point in worrying. Hehe! (Also, according to my teacher you can pass the BC just by getting at least the cadence sections right so yay to that!)

Next week's written exam's worth a lot more but there's lots of opportunities for easy marks so chin up everyone!

I too need an A in Music for uni and I too think it is the subject I'm actually least likely to get an A in! Why do we do it to ourselves??? Hehe.

Anyway..sorry for the rant - just don't like seeing people down/feeling negative (even though I'm Miss Pessimist!)

Good luck everyone!

It's definitely my subject I am least likely to get an A in. But I can't help but feel negative, I didn't get a high enough UMS to feel secure. I think I might have scraped a pass for BarCount. but it really was horrendous sad.gif

I'm trying to forget about it...

Just to say a big GOOD LUCK to everyone taking Edexcel A2 music tommorrow morning! (And anyone taking any other exams while we're at it...)
Not long to go now and it will all be over! smile.gif

Yes you will and you know it.

I haven't even looked at the Wagner yet. *Sigh* I have a vague idea what I'm doing Small Ensemble-wise. I'm praying for the Corelli to come up. Listening...bleh, twas never gonig to be my strong point. Ah well.
nicki_flute
I'm not sure, if I haven't got an A in History, I won't be going anywhere.

I want one of the Brahms questions to be "Describe the Fugato", and for You can get it if you really want and some more favourable works to come up for pop and jazz.
magicflute
Now come on nicki, I know you're an 'optimist with experience' but there's no need to think like that!

I know it doesn't sound amazing but there is clearing. Loads of people go through clearing and end up happy where they go, so it's not all doom and gloom. Besides, you never know!

Hehe no...I thought the listening was better than some of the mocks. Not too sure on the anthology, but mainly because I don't know exactly what they're looking for, so just put all the relevant things I could think of and will hopefully get ok marks for it!
We were really disrupted throughout the anthology paper by lots of kids (and even a teacher) screaming and shouting right outside our room... angry.gif angry.gif angry.gif ...so not impressed
Oh well, at least it's over now!

Same here...though about the disruption rather than the exam, and just getting myself more and more wound up about it....so need to breath and calm down!
recorderzrule
I thought the listening wasn't too bad either the comparison didn't even have a 6 mark question to answer! The written was ok too, pretty nice questions. Not sure if I wrote enough for section B but I think I included most things.
Gazzura
Hey there..

I also did music A2 earlier. I focused on Brahms (small ensamble) and film & TV (Goldsmith)... The anthology paper wasn't too hard. I'm kinda glad the question about the trio came up for Brahms and tonality for Goldsmith.

The listening, however, kinda made me think twice.. or three times.. Question 3 was murder for me. My weakest point is listening to what chords are where. Hopefully I made up for that in the anthology paper, because I wrote a lot about anything I could think of in Section B (inst. and textures between Williams and Bernstein.. which is lucky because I did that question as a mock so many times).

But yeah, the first question in the listening paper must've been the easiest question I've ever answered in the whole of my music course.

I hope you got what you need in this exam.

Gav.
nicki_flute
I found the Brahms questions horrible!
miss_tickle_thea
Listening: slightly iffy, the chords were sooooo hard- think I maybe got one of them!

Anthology paper was REALLY good! biggrin.gif made my day that I could actually answer all the questions! Except everyone else in my class found it really hard. blink.gif Don't understand...

I guessed the chords :/

Well, I had some really nice pop and jazz ones smile.gif
Gazzura
I guessed the chords too. I put something like IV, V, Vb, Vc.

Brahms wasn't too hard.. I kept changing whether or not to do a or b. I chose b at the end.. I'm listening to the Brahms piece now actually.. I really really like it.

Who missed the back page of the listening test? I know a few people who did... I did the back as soon as I got to question 3.

I half guessed the chords, I've given up caring about the chords because I'm confident I got the melody! hooray, I thought it was easier than it first sounded.

I didn't! And I think I got the right composer and everything biggrin.gif...

I'm fed up of the words "melodic lines"

Brahms - well - this was for my special focus work.....I did the one about the trio and the one about harmony in the scherzo.

I did the same questions. I wrote quite a few points on both.. Hopefully I get some good marks. For section B, I did about 4-5 pages just about Bernstein and Williams. I needed two additional sheets.. So I feel a little confident that I had large answers.. Whether or not they're relevent, I don't know.

The composer sounded like Chopin to me, and I put 1840 for the year. My friend (grade 8 pianist and general know-it-all) told me Chopin died in 1839, so I bricked when he told me.. THEN he told me he died in 1849 at the age of 39. I could've wringed his neck, haha. My other friend put 1890, though.

Ehh, I'm going nowhere. I did a theory test at one university, but I did very badly. I forgot everything what was on it, so I failed. Not only that, but I couldn't perform because I was shaking too much.

But, I never really hoped to go to Uni. I'll be happy with my grade as long as it's not below D.

Ouch...that had about 12 marks on it too!!
Glad that the Chopin was right, though I think I put about 1860 in the end, so unlikely to get full marks for the year...oh well, will hopefully get one for being near-ish!
Just need to try and forget about all the exams over the summer now...that will be difficult!!
