Excuse me? I'm 17 and haven't yet taken my grade 6 on flute or any grades on piano, and if I take my grade 3 it will be sometime in the next academic year.
liebe_klavier
no offense here...but i think pianist_1210 have some doubts of my abilities here...
cecilia
I think, Liebe_Klavier, that he/she thought you were a lot older than you are and so was joking that an adult might say "age doesn't matter". I don't think they meant any offence at all. It's amazing to have reached the standards you have at your age, so don't feel that anyone doubts your abilities my friend! smile.gif

Is it time to recommend a children's forum?

For what purpose and on what criterion? Some of our juniors contribute as sensibly and expertly as many adults, so we would lose out if we tried to exclude them.

Why? Are we not "mature" enough? At what age do you stop being a child anyway? 16? 18? 21? Ever?

There are some people on this board whose ages I would not know unless this post had been included.

There are some people I know in person who are not legally classified as "adults" but are much more mature and intelligent than many of the adults I know. I'd much rather listen to them any day.

If I'm old enough to drive, smoke, buy Lottery tickets, have kids and get married, I think I'm probably old enough to post on this forum. But if you don't want to hear my opinion on things because I'm not old enough to vote or drive a heavy goods vehicle... well... I'd probably better not finish that sentence...

2 - That suggestion wasn't directed at you as you know. I'm very happy to hear your and everyone else's opinion - if they have an opinion.
How come this topic is under Viva Piano?

wink.gif

because it was a pianist originally saying he/she felt inexperienced compared to other pianists, and decided to conduct a poll to find out how old everyone was...

just out of interest, why did you deem it necessary to suggest a children's forum?

That's why the suggestion.   You can chat away happily while we grown ups get on with music.

Do we not say anything helpful?!?!

We come to these forums to talk about music too.

And, to be quite honest, we don't welcome patronising comments either.

Bit late but, hear hear!

Or is it here here? I never know. It could be that "Yes, I'm hearing that!" or "Yes, I feel that way over here too..."

Hmmm a little childish maybe...
cecilia
Ooo... that caused an uproar didn't it? Just goes to show you can't really tell the tone of what anyone says over the Internet so something can be wildly misinterpreted! laugh.gif

Oh, and if it was anything I ever said, I'm sorry! blink.gif

oddy
forum posts are easily taken the wrong way so i'm going to make it very clear that this is not a snipe at ivorx nor do i wish to bring up that issue again...

so, now i've done the disclaimer i have to say, i'm really surprised how young some of our members are, i very rarely read a post that feels "childish" or even "young teenagerish" in tone- i'd assumed that several people who are younger than me were in fact older........so maybe being a good musician makes you more mature in terms of verbal and written expression as well? just something to ponder smile.gif

lol thanks catrin, I'm 26 and now I feel *ancient* after that comment!!! lol...

And for the record I really really do NOT want to be 13 again... ohmy.gif

and it's 8 years almost since I left school and feels like a couple of weeks ago and a couple of lifetimes ago

I think that the range 10 to 20 is too large.

i agree... more than 50% is from 10-20!!!
all ears
The age range is what MAKES this forum! More power to the loddaya!

Viohazard hates writing in English, but when he finds out how many 10-20s there are, he might just get off his lazy chuff and join in...

I'm 46. Years, that is, not months...

Would I like to be 13 again? Can I even remember 13 any more? I was heavily into Tolstoy, and so shy that the new school flute teacher thought I was retarded cool.gif . Shaggy haircuts were all the rage, and all my friends got their Mums to knit them skinnyrib tank tops that showed their bellybuttons to wear with their flared jeans, but my Mum wasn't having a bar of it!

The songs I remember best from that year were David Bowie's Changes rolleyes.gif and Cat Stevens' Morning Has Broken dry.gif ... Whaddaya know, Viohazard finds a bargain bin Cat Stevens CD 20 years later, and I have to listen to it all over again.

That happened to me once with a French teacher blink.gif

Happy birthday Jess!

I agree that it is sometimes difficult to tell the age of posters from what they post- and what they say, people seemed to get confused as I said I was 15 but my signature said I was taking AS music, they didn't understand that actually I wasn't doing the rest of my AS levels and was only in Year 10!

And I like having the balance of ages on the forums because it makes them so much more useful, I think.

Wouldn't it be better if you were to split ages to do 10-15, 16-21?
