It has recently occurred to me that some first aid training would be a good idea. When I'm teaching in school or college there are undoubtably First Aiders about, but not necessarily in the building that I am in. When I'm teaching at home, I carry sole responsibility, although there is usually someone else in the house.

I know that I teach at least two people who have anaphylactic reactions and one who is epileptic. I haven't actively enquired of parents/adult learners whether there are any other serious medical conditions of which I should be aware.

Has anyone else taken a course to equip them for dealing with emergencies? What level of training did you go for, and who did you train with?

Sorry I am not a teacher but just wanted to say that the St John's Ambulance has very good accredited courses, you would only need a basic one. Look for your local St John's Ambulance in the phone book and contact them for charges etc.
Just wanted to suggest that.

I've always used a local Adult Education course to cover first aid - it's worth checking your county's adult education service to see if there's anything suitable. smile.gif

It might be worth looking at a paediatric first aid course too if most of your work is with children.
