what do songs do people sing at their xmas concerts. we get the audience to sing the carols while we play the tunes and the choir sing some different things. one year we did a song called 'Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown?' and last year we did a song called 'Love Shone Down', thats the one i had to sing solo in dry.gif lol

we have carol services, where the orchestra play the carols and the congregation sing, and the choir sings descants and do a few religous (usually) songs. Then we have a concert where we do more fun things, like santa claus is coming to town, and the band play things like winter wonderland and things like that. We did a sister act medley at both concerts, which seemed to go down well!

I had to do 'Frosty the Snowman' for one concert, and 'O Come all ye Faithful' in another, and my teacher made everyone sing whilst we were playing it was great!

We once sang "Rhythm of Life" from Sweet Charity. Great song smile.gif

We've also done John Rutter's Angel Carol which was really lovely, and once our head of music did his own setting of "Star Carol" for a choir competition, which we won because we were the only choir who entered it...

Rutter's a favourite in our music department. dry.gif soem of its really cheesy "nice" stuff, but the angels carol was good! And they always ( or seem to) start with that arpegio-like introduction!

Hehe, they do don't they? My favourite Rutter song is the Gaelic Blessing, which my school choir did last year... none of the sopranos could get the highest notes except me and my friend Amy, lol. They ended up making everyone else sing a third below in the concert while the 2 of us sang the actual notes. It wasn't even that high... a couple of A flats and then back down again. I think most of our sopranos could have done it, they were just scared or something. Sweet girls though, bless 'em. smile.gif

Does Gaelic blessing start with "Deep peace of the running wave to you"? Coz if it does, I think we sang it aswell!
singingsiren
Yup, that's the one!
elmo
Yeah I liked that one! Except I sang the middle part, so I didn't have too many high notes!

Oooooo i like Rutter as well. I've both sung and played with an orchestra 'For the beauty of the Earth' on many occasions. It's really beautiful. I've also sung varuious versions of Rhythm of Life as well, and i love that too.
Hmmm... Christmas music.... there are loads of medleys of carols and arrangements that i've done but i cant remember the composers. #Sorry!

Rhythm of Life was kinda funny for me because I knew the actual words, which were slightly different from the cleaned up version we did... There was no "rhythm in the bedroom" or "leave your wife" stuff for us, that's for sure.

I remember singing that when I was about 9 and on tour in Germany with my choir. The audience were v polite considering they obviously didn't understand a word we were saying, and even when we were actually singing in German, I suspect our music teacher taught us to sing it in a strong brummy accent, so they probably still thought we were singing in a foreign language! Ah well!

I sang O Holy Night and my teacher accompanied on harp, which was lush and we had our gospel choir singing amazing grace and lean on me, which everyone really enjoyed because it was different. We always have our orchestra as well, playing sleigh ride or troika and stuff like that and instrumental pieces, like war is over on clarinet.
