Yes I know odd question smile.gif

I was wondering if you did theory exams a long time ago and didn't do very well (but passed) can you resit them with the intention of getting a higher grade? E.g. to go from pass to pass with merit.

I'm not intending to do this. I am intending to sit my grade 2 theory in November (having passed grade 3 three years ago) as I don't feel brave enough to try doing grade 4 from scratch (having forgotten most of what I learnt then!).

I just wondered if in theory it could be done.

Yes, it can be done - some people sit G8 again to improve on a disappointing mark, some people sit others again, occasionally people enter for the same exam twice in one session to (they hope) double the chances of doing well in the exam room.

Why don't you just work through some past papers or the Theory in Practice books to refresh your memory? You'll probably find it all comes back quicker than you think. If you start now, you have a pretty good chance of sitting grade 4 in the next session or in the Spring. Much cheaper to do that than another exam fee!

Hi Sue,

I have looked at them, but it just didn't seem to go in. I was going to try it this time around but lost my nerve when it came to applying - I just couldn't retain the info and to be honest I got ph34r.gif so that was why I thought I'd do the grade 2 as an intro and then do 4 next year, giving me plenty of time.

My plan was to pass grade 1 flute this time (still a bit doubtful as no accompanist), grade 2 theory in November and then do grade 2 practical next year along with grade 4 theory. I've tried 4 and 5 theory several times but failed so I'm a bit nervous about doing them.

Does that make any sense?

All the best with the theory.
