hello, im fairly new to this forum and new to jazz in general.

I'm keen to get into jazz music, listening + playing. I play drums, electric guitar to a decent standard (grade8 both), and recently started playing piano (Grade0 tongue.gif )

My jazz knowledge consisted of mostly miles davis, I had three of his albums which were - kind of blue, ######es brew, birth of cool. Which i enjoyed alot, although not birth of cool as much as the other two. I've been recommended john mcgaughlin. However my the hard drive on my old pc completely melted and i lost all three albums angry.gif

So where do I start?? I'm looking for jazz inspiration on guitar and piano and possibly drums. I'm keen to get hold of kind of blue, and ######es brew back. I know very few jazz artists if you haven't already guessed.

If someone could give me some recommendations of say early jazz, 60's jazz, and new jazz that I should listen to it would be most helpful smile.gif

By the way, can many jazz tabs be found on the internet?

edit - apologies if the title of that album caused offence, it is very early and i didnt realise!

Trad Jazz - listen to Louis Armstrong although he was edging towards swing

Listne to Thelonius Monk and Art tatum on piano.

I may be back later suggesting some more!

How about some John Coltrane - Giant Steps?

There was quite a good thread recently linking to a (rather out of synch) youtube 5-parter called The Universal Mind of Bill Evans: Very informative about the Jazz process as this iconic performer saw it. This is the link to part 1:
