can anyone tell me what grade any of these pieces are?:
Grande Pathetique Sonata movement 1 in grave, Beethoven
The Tempest, Largo, Beethoven
Claire De Lune, Debussy
Canon in D, Pachelbel
thanks in advance

Yes I know most of them.
Beethoven Pathetique is approximately grade 8, and I think it has been on the syllabus before. I'm not familiar with the tempest sonata sorry. Claire De Lune is around grade 6, it isn't that difficult, and Canon in D is rather easy so probably 4/5.
Hope this helps.

Pretty sure clare de Lune is harder than grade 6, and has been used in grade 8 exam. I would say its a more of a challenge that Arabesque no. 1, which is in grade 8 this year. having said that, I've only really had a very supricial look at them, although my teacher has suggested both as 'big' projects. I would find them both extremely difficult whatever grade they are.
Pachabel cannon is not written for key board, and there are loads of different transcriptions. some a lot harder than others. Impossible to say how hard it is. I played a nice one at about grade 4 a few years ago.
I also thought the famous movement from pathetique is grade 6, but not sure if that is the movement you're talking about or not.
See what happens when you ask these questions - nobody agrees with anybody else so you get several contradictory answers. In fact the diferent examining boards don't even agree - I usually think of Mozart Fantasy as grade 6, but found it in a trinity board grade 7 book at the w/e.
I think it would be useful if there was a list of all pieces that had been used for exams, and at what grade.

Yeah,my teacher gave me a 1965 ABRSM Grade 6 book to borrow, and it has movement 2 in it. Don't know about movement 1 though

Grande Pathetique Sonata movement 1 in grave, Beethoven
is currently on the Performer's certificate (Trinity) and the whole sonata is on the dipABRSM syllabus...

I recently bought a transcription of the Pachelbel's Canon by Robert Schultz that is about grade 7-8 at least.

Movt 1 of the Pathetique Sonata is certainly advanced, beyond Grade 8, as are Claire De Lune by Debussy and The Tempest sonata. Not sure about the Canon in D by Pachelbel.

Pathetique, the full thing is DipABRSM.
Tempest is FRSM, LRSM, I think. Harder definitely though than Pathetique.
Clair de Lune is on the senior performance certificate syllabus (the exam after Grade 8) for the RIAM. It is definitely harder than Grade 6, what with 5-6 flats and a difficult middle section. Plus musically, it is difficulrt to achieve the light ethereal, floating effect.
Canon in D, depends on which version you have. Some arrangements are for easy piano, some are harder.
