I'm doing my grade 1 flute this afternoon. I finally found someone to accompany me, so that's one worry out of the way. Now I've got to find a way to get there - easier said than done as the exam time is just after schools finish (you're not allowed on public transport here at that time as it is all allocated for schools) so I'm hoping I can get a taxi. Once there I need to find a way back again.

By the time I'm there I'll be knackered blink.gif

My first practice with someone went okay, but my breathing was _majorly wrong_ and I can't seem to get dynamics out of my flute properly (my jaw is still swollen which may contribute to it). I'm hoping I can still pass despite that. I can get my dynamics okay on two of the pieces and breathing fine on two. There is no problem at all with playing in time.

This is the first music exam I've ever sat (and I've sat a few) that I know all my scales off by heart which is ph34r.gif

Good luck Becca77. Just remember how much you have triumphed to get to this point, and go and complete that triumph by doing the exam this afternoon.

Hope it goes well, and it helps me to bear in mind that the examiner wants me to do well, he/she is on my side, so I try and pretend that I'm just playing for the enjoyment of a good friend..... well it works for me anyway biggrin.gif

Best of luck.
Try to stay calm, it'll help you no end, and no matter what the outcome is you've got nothing to lose.
Well done for memorising the scales biggrin.gif

Best of luck! It's all over in a flash so just enjoy biggrin.gif

I had to go to work the morning of my exam last week, and then back to work immediately after - I guess that took my mind off things. Ideally I'd like a full day to really get a proper panic on! Actually I enjoyed the performance aspect of it this time round, and the examiner was just lovely smile.gif

Let us know how it goes smile.gif

Have fun!

Well it was an odd one. First of all the stewart had no idea I was going. Although ABRSM had notifed me of the change of exam time and date they hadn't notified them or the examiner. There was a major panic before I turned up because my accompist had mentioned I was going and no-one had been told. A good start it was not. I wasn't relaxed because the taxi driver I had was in a foul mood and thought they were Michael Schumacher!

The exam itself was borderline really. I have no idea if I passed or failed. Some of my notes got fluffed and my timing was slightly off. My scales went well as did the sight reading.

The aural was in a realm of its own. It has changed _so much_ since I last did a practical exam (which was um 15 years ago). I did do some practicing but I should have looked at the aural more before going, so it was a bit of a nasty shock. I think I did okay and got through.

So all in all I really don't know. It wasn't horrendous but it wasn't brilliant either. I did enjoy it though. The examiner was lovely!
