Did you know that Elton John, Annie Lennox and David Bowie all hold a BMus (Honours) from the Royal Academy of Music and now all have the FRAM (Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Music).

I wonder what they're instrument is. Because i dont think it was voice, even though they are all very good.

Elton John didn't really have a main instrument: he studied Composition, not performance, I believe. I'm not sure about the other two

piano...maybe...i dunno... someone check it out....

Elton John was piano (obviously), Annie Lennox was flute. As for Bowie - didn't think he actually went as a student - think this may have been an honorary degree.

On Annie Lennox's web site it says:

Lennox spent the next three years at the Academy studying classical music, but she ended up leaving just weeks before her final exams, unhappy with the direction her life was going in. Of her time she speaks: "Unfortunately, I never really fit in there so I spent the next three years looking for something better to do."

So. Probably she doesn't have a (non-honorary) degree.

Elton John was actually granted a scholarship to the Academy as a youngster. He is one VERY talented chap.

I heard Elton couldn't read music? And I thought Annie Lennox was piano too...just a thought.

RAM must be very good at producing both successful pop stars and classical musicians/singers smile.gif

Elton John wrote the music when he received the lyrics in the post from Bernie Taupin.
Elton John was encouraged by his mother to take piano lessons after showing an extraordinary flair for playing the piano at the age of 4, however the classical training he received always frustrated him, he preferred to mimick Winnifred Atwell !!
