I'm currently working on the first movement of this piece for my Grade 8, but was wondering what sort of mood I should be aiming for with it.
It is marked, erm, Allegretto Malin-something or another and I cant find Malin-whatever it is in any of my performance directions dictionaries, so does anyone know what it means.
Also, the piece is dedicated to the memory of somebody, so should I be trying to think of it as a description/celebration of somebodies life...
Thanks in advance, Tamsin

The malincolico (malinconico in earlier editions) means melancholic (as in melancholy - a bit more than just sad, I think). So you are right to see it as a sad piece. I think the middle section is wistful longing. Hope this helps.

That middle section in my piece is marked 'seaweed' (I'm borrowing the music) ~ it makes me laught everytime I actually notice it! I think its because it kind of drifts like seaweed waving around in water...
Still makes me laugh though!

I preferred the second movement, but that probably due to the fact that I'm still not playing the first movement all that well at the mo!
It has some really stunning phases, my favourite (I thnk) is the one on the third line of the second page, I'm just trying to think what the notes are, I can hear them in my head...
Nope, can't think of them. Grr. Its been too long since I last played it through.
