I've been looking at an online Music Store at Moyse technique books but there seems to be several of them. I wondered which ones people have used and find the most useful. Has anyone used the scale book or daily exercises. We already have the Wye Omnibus book, looking to supplement it to generate renewed interest.

My old teacher was very fond of the extended scales, not sure which book they are in.
I occasionaly use the 100 etudes, they are useful but tedious and boring!

i am currently using the scales and arpeggios book, and i like it ........... but i've been told that i'm a bit .... odd .... blink.gif

I have the De La Sonorite Art et Technique book which my teacher suggested I get when I was learning. It has a chromatic tone exercise like the Trevor Wye book in all octaves, amongst other things. I found it useful when I was learning but overall I prefer the Trevor Wye.

Just looked online and it's £24.95 - I paid £14.00 - bargain! (that was many many years ago though smile.gif ).

The Moyse books always seem to be expensive - I tend to get them as and when they appear (and I see them!) on eBay.

I think its a French publisher thing. One of my pupils got a study book published by a French company recently for an exam and it was something like £25 - I don't think his Dad has got over it yet!

Yup - like the Leduc editions, (I think I mean Leduc...) which are always horrendous for one tiny bit of music ohmy.gif - I wonder if French music is that expensive in France?? Or whether it's to do with having to import it.

Gives me palpitations whenever I have to buy something French though! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Thanks everyone

I'm going to go for the Scales book I think and maybe one of the others. They are expensive but it's a one off cost and hopefully hubby won't notice paying for them lol.

Scales seem to be a bit of a problem, getting her to practice them not always easy, for lower grades she used the Scales under Construction Series which helped.

Has anyone used the Daily Exercises? I'm trying to get an idea of what level they are suitable for.

I remember someone telling me that the Wye books are basically the same thing so if you already have them they mightn't be much different.

We are so lucky to have the Flute music by French composers, which is a £10 book with over £90 of music inside! (although the Gaubert sonata I so desperately want to buy is still £25 sad.gif )

You have my sympathy. I think I'm going to have to cave in and buy the second and third Gaubert sonatas, although if you can bear to wait a few more years they may well drop in price - Gaubert died in 1941.

Flute Music by French Composers is still sold under-the-counter by several shops as it contains at least two copyright works under British law (the Gaubert ones).

Yeh, they have recently brought out a cheap version of the 1st sonata, but the 3rd one which is absoultely gorgeous is still expensive. I might just wait, I still have to learn at least £200 worth of sheet music which has accumulated but not been learnt!

ohmy.gif Didn't realise that. If I was going to perform the Gaubert, I would get the proper print like I did for Enescu, the page turns are much nicer, and notes spaced out properly so that you can actually read notes!

So does that mean it would be against the law to perform those particular pieces from the book? ohmy.gif

Maybe by the time I'm capable of playing them they'll be cheaper rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Not as far as I'm aware. Music which is out of copyright in one country can often be still in copyright in another, so the publisher is the one that runs into problems. I performed out of that book for my DipABRSM and no-one batted an eyelid.

I just bought that book this week and I have to say it is the best flute book ever! Definitely a must have, can't believe I hadn't heard of it before.
