Hey I've just been contacted via Friends Reunited by my very best friend in the whole wide world from infant school laugh.gif

I joined FR several months ago and never gave it another thought, then out of the blue I got a message from my VBFITWWWFIS and we're going to meet up biggrin.gif

Has anyone else ever met up with long lost friends or workmates through FR? biggrin.gif

I was contacted by an old school friend and we chatted on the phone a couple of times but then she kept emailing me and ringing me trying to get me to invest her business, which was obviously a pyramid selling scam - it took a while but she eventually stopped contacting me.

However I did also get in touch with several previously unknown-of distant relatives through the subsidiary site, GenesReunited and have stayed in touch with a couple of them, which is nice.

Noodle I'm being thick, what's a BB company?

That's great. I only recently joined and haven't conteacted anyone ... yet! I was a bit shocked to see my name listed under our BB company. I did help out for a very short time, but I didn't put my name there, don't want it there and it won't delete! argh.gif argh.gif

BB company?

Have you tried sending an email to FR to ask them to delete it?

I didn't join GenesReunited but I can't remember why not. I'll have to have another look into it cos my cousin researches the family history so it might be fun to see what happens smile.gif

Not through FR but I recently got in touch with a good friend from infants' school - we haven't met for at least forty years. She's now living in Australia.

Better late than never skylark, it's only been around about 4 or 5 years!
I'm impressed that someone that old has been in touch, it's good to see the silver surfers making an effort at their age!! biggrin.gif

I've found a few ex-pupils on FR and even more of them on facebook!!

Yes I have made contact with quite a few. One is five minute walk from my Headingley office, so we are meeting regularly for a pint of Taylors .

I have found two fourth cousins through GR - one of whom has such a vast family tree that I feel I should be honoured to feature! However, he did tell me the name of a book that I had been hunting for and I was able to get one of the final few copies of what was a private print run, which had tales about my great-grandfather in it. That was good fun. As I had met the great aunts of another new cousin and could describe their cottage etc he has been much more approachable and we have been exchanging the sort of data that the family history types love (hatch, match and dispatch certs).

The only contact from FR was someone that I knew at school but we weren't friends then - so we are friendly now but not friends.

I haven't registered with FR - I reason that if I'd wanted to stay in touch with anyone then I would have. And I still have a few friends from my school days.

GR has brought several email enquiries from people with relatives of the same name - but no matches.

I've got in contact with some good college friends through FR, and done a couple of recitals with one of them. I will be going on holiday near to his house this summer (my kids love his dog, and he seem to get on ok with them). We initially found the place as it was a good place to stay and visit friends. My highlight this summer will be saying hello to his baby daughter.

I just need to contact all the other friends in the area to see if we can meet up with them too.

Things have moved on a lot since the late 1980s, but its still great to catch up with people and share meals with them, go on walks and generally chill out.

FR worked a bit too well for a friends' hubby. He got in touch with some people from school and ended up going off with an ex-girlfriend blink.gif angry.gif
