hey.... i'm just wondering if i'll be penalised in the aural section if i do not sing out the sol-fa names or the letter names in the sight-singing portion in the G5 practical exam? can i just do a standard "la" throughout the different notes sung?
or if the score is in F major, and it goes "F-G-A-G-F" - can i sing this as "fa-sol-la-sol-fa" - will it be considered WRONG?

Or you can just sing la,la la, la if you want.
So long as it works for you.

Singing the notes to 'la' is absolutely fine!

Yes you can sing "la" that's fine.
If you're going to sing in the solfa then I'm sure you should sing it correctly ie for your example sing doh re mi re doh!

La is fine

it says it in the syllabus so it can't be wrong.

I've past all my grades just singing to 'la' or 'aah' so I guess that is all they are expecting.

"la" is fine. i got 18/18 in grades 2-5 aural and never sang anything but "la".

I've checked in the ABRSM aural booky thing, and it says 'any vowel sound'. So I guess that could include even not technically correct Sol-fa!

As others have said, you can apparently sing to any vowel sounds. I think it's the correct pitch they are looking for.
(And by the way I guess these are correct if you are using solfa with the fixed doh system - where doh is always C).
