OK My first instrument if Flute and second Clarinet. I've been playing clarinet for just under a year and have just got my grade five results back. The problem is I only got 14 for my scales, wereas on my flute the lowest I've ever got is 20.
Am I just a bad clarinetist or do other people struggle with scales on the clarinet???

I've no idea~ I dont play clarinet, perhaps though its because, flute being your first instrument, you spend more time on its scales
Scales, ugh, I'm not altogether content with mine at the mo, I was trying to play the 3 octave on C chromatic in jazz quavers last night~ what a disaster!

dont worry i got 14 for scales at grade 5 as well!!
i find it much harder to play scales on woodwing instruments thanthe piano, dont know why though. it just seems to take ages on the clarinet and sax for the scales to stick in my head!LOL

It may just be because its your 2nd instrument. The clarinet is my 1st and sometimes when i play the flute or sax i start trying to play clarinet fingerings!
