Now, usually I wouldn't like Clementi. At all - in fact I'd go to extreme lengths to avoid it. But I've just tried the piece on the grade 8 list - a tip off from a friend - and I really like it.

Anyone else surprised by the 'niceness' (sorry feeling unimaginative with my superlatives) of this piece? smile.gif smile.gif

Yes I really like it too smile.gif , so although my original intention was to play the Mozart for the exam I think I'd much prefer to play the Clementi.

Which Clementi is it - I don't have the syllabus but quite like Clementi myslef.

Y'know, I'm starting to go down that road too. Which Mozart? I was going to do the Sonata in F, but I'm a bit taken by this one right now.

Yes it was the sonata in F that I'd learned but I enjoy playing the Clementi far more - though I don't think I really know why.

You are right: the Clementi is very nice. Those quick scale-like runs like at the end of the first page really get to me though.

My bet is that it will be a popular B list choice after the Mozart.

i have tried bits of clementi, mozart and haydn, i do like the clementi one very much but i just found the haydn sonata is more interesting to play. smile.gif

I've also decided to do the Clementi. I started off with the Mozart but although I wasn't finding it too difficult I decided to try the other choices and then found how nice the Clementi is.

The only thing that bothers me about it is that apart from the scale passages it seems rather easy for a grade 8 piece. Is it just me that thinks that or am I missing something about it?!
poppys
I'm doing the clementi too!
I agree it is a lovely piece but minus the scale passages it is quite easy i suppose.I like the start when the left hand has the ascending chromatics!

I think this Clementi piece is lovely

My daughter did a Clementi Sonata in B flat for grade 8 a few (about 12 ) years back. As a result, as the music is still at our house I often play it. Its good fun. I will have to look at the G minor now as its in the same book.

I do quite like Clementi, but I must say I wasn't all that fussed on this one. Bits of it are lovely, but I think I'd get sick of it soon if I was spending a lot of time on it. What is the Haydn on the syllabus, just out of interest? (I'm not familiar with the current AB Grade 8 Syllabus.)

Either the E flat Hob XVI No 52 or in C No 50 (First movements)

The E flat is quite nice.

Yes, I know the Eb one! I'd definitely go for it instead of the Clementi if it was my choice. As somebody else said, Haydn is really 'interesting' to practise. Definitely more so than Mozart, on the whole, too, I think.
