Hi Phillip, and welcome to the forums

I've just been listening to a taster of your music... it's a bit too early in the morning to come up with my own description so I'll use a phrase that somebody else on your site used - "hauntingly beautiful". Look forward to seeing you around the forums.

Best wishes

Hi Phillip

Welcome to the forums. Having looked at your website, I'd just like to say that I'm not usually a fan of "modern" music, but your music is very evocative and I could happily listen to more of it.

Hope you find the forums helpful and informative - and good fun!

Thank you Matthew. It's hard to know how my music comes across since I can't hear it for the first time - particularly the piano pieces - but it's nice to know it reaches people. Thanks for the generous welcome!

Best,
Phillip

Thanks Misterioso. I'm very new to forums and the internet overall. I've never been sure what "modern" music is - I simply write what I feel. I'm not what you'd call "clever' - but it's very heartwarming to know what I do reaches people. Take care!

Hi Skylark,

I'm really touched you like the music on my homepage. I wrote it during the weeks following my courageous mother's passing. I called it "Into His Countenance" because it depicts her soul moving towards God's countenance. If you go to the "Tribute" pages in my website, you can read about her in a memoir titled "An Unforgettable Joy". There is also a memoir about the Australian composer Miriam Hyde who was my mentor. I lost the two great ladies in my life just months apart. I dedicated my website to my mother's memory as i now do everything, so, thank you again for the kind words and to everyone, thank you all for the generosity of spirit and encouraging thoughts for my music. I'll pop by as much as possible - when I'm not caught between five lines and four spaces!!

Blessings everyone,

Phillip smile.gif

Thank you! I am glad you liked 1791. It was premiered twice in July - the Bourbaki Ensemble with Rachel Tolmie, for whom I wrote the piece, performed it. It meant a lot to me because I'm more known for my piano music. I'm sorry it's taken me a while to get back to these forums - but I've checked in today and it's nice to have contact with you. Cheers!

The birthday list tells us that it's Phillip Wilcher's 50th birthday today... Phillip is an Australian composer who only contributed very briefly to these forums last August but his music is beautiful.

He probably won't see any Happy Birthday message, but I've resurrected this thread as a birthday tribute because I love his music which is on his web site.

Dear Skylark and all who have so generously wished me well for my birthday:

I am utterly overwhelmed by your generosity of spirit and good will. I'm so sorry to have been out of touch. I've perhaps mentioned before I am no computer whiz and having forgotten my username and pass word, it's been quite a journey today to find my way back here to send you all this greeting.

Some of you may be interested to know there are other examples of my music to be found on Youtube. I don't quite know how to direct you there, so good luck in the search.

I just hope you all receive this message of thanks from me because it comes from my heart which is beating ever faster with the joy of knowing you have thought so warmly of me. I'm really touched. So what does it feel like to turn 50? I don't know - I'm still 3!!

Love and best wishes for now - I'll try keep in touch more regularly and maybe next year I'll find myself back in London. I was there in 2006 and LOVED it!

Hello Phillip! wave.gif

Nice to see you again!

When I resurrected your thread for your birthday, I looked for and found some of your clips on Youtube - at that time there had only been a few comments as the clips had only just been loaded but it seems that everyone loves your music smile.gif

It's such a pity that your CDs aren't available in this country, or on Amazon etc - I looked last year and I looked again a couple of weeks ago... do you have any plans to sell your CDs here or online?

Hi Skylark and everyone,

I am hoping to have most of my piano music uploaded to Youtube. I released my own CDs although the ABC have recorded my Ballade and there are several other CD releases through Australia Music Centre, Tall Poppies and Publications by Wirripang. The piano music was easiest to get recorded. Sometime this year my publisher (Publications by Wirripang) will be releasing a CD for my 50th ( but I'm still going on 3!!) which will include some flute/oboe and string orchestra music together with other pieces.

If anyone really would like to purchase my CDs, it would best to contact the Australia Music Centre through their website.....

But you know, this all sounds awfully business like and I want to get back to conveying to everyone my heartfelt thanks for your generosity of spirit. It really mean a lot to me!

Blessings ever and best wishes

Phillip

You're welcome. Thanks again. It's a wet cold day here in Sydney but the mornings are lighter. I feed the doves that frequent our yard every morning in honour of my mother whose 79th birthday it would have been today - so I'm here now "Skylarking" as the gentle doves gather to eat their grain. They work their way in circles from the outside in. You can read about my mother in the "Tribute Pages" of my website in a piece titled "An Unforgettable Joy" - the doves are there too! Wonders of nature......
Are you from London?

Blessings ever.....

The days are getting longer here too, but I'm in Northern England rather than London. We're still having flurries of snow though - but not too bad and Spring is definitely in the air.

Your mother sounds a remarkable lady !

One of my musical mentors would have been 80 today - and he was a keen amateur ornithologist. A few years ago he spotted that birds were nesting in the broken base of a street lamp just across from our house. I still see birds going in and out from time to time - yes - there's one there now. I think they might be blue tits. And there's a pair of jays just landed on the tree to the right - wow.

My customer this morning for crumbs in the front garden was a little fluffy robin.

... if you talk to the world, it invariably talks back.

Thank you Maggiemay! Yes, my mother was indeed a remarkable lady. Birds are lovely creatures, aren't they? I fret if I miss feeding the doves of a morning. When i visited london a couple of years ago i left a note on the fridge door which read : Feed the doves first!

Blessings to you maggiemay, and to Skylark and everyone.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread to wish Phillip a happy birthday!

As some members know, Phillip is hoping to come over to the UK from Australia in the autumn (late Sept/early Oct), and I'm organising a venue where advanced pianists and possibly flautists/oboists can play some of his music and he's hoping to come and attend. If there are any advanced musicians who would like to think about coming to this "do", I can send you some of Phillip's music to have a look at in due course.

Phillip won't know until around June whether he'll be definitely coming, but I'll organise the venue in any event as it will be a nice occasion for us to get together and make music anyway - I'm liaising with a stately home in Yorkshire, where we'll be playing in the hall as the public pass through. Although this is an opportunity to play a published composer's music in his presence, it is envisaged that performers will have plenty of time to play their own repertoire as well - if anybody's interested, depending on date and location, please post, email or PM me smile.gif I should be able to confirm date and location in the next few weeks.

Some of Phillip's music can be heard on his web site - www.phillipwilcher.com and on Youtube.

Happy birthday again, Phillip!
