Woot!! Exam's over! I can't wait to get my hands on other pieces. party1.gif musicMakers.gif happy.gif
Anyway... here goes..
The examiner was pretty. She appeared to be in her 30's and wearing a black and white floral print dress. Of course only later I realised she towered over me by... err.. I only reached to her chest level. laugh.gif

Anyway, the first piece was ok in the first page although I didn't realise it at all, but I had started playing 2 beats ahead of where I was supposed to and fortunately I didn't realise it at that time, or I might have panicked. But we both made it sound correct because my teacher skipped the two beats. But unfortunately I had an bit of an untidy moment in the second page and that caused a slight hitch in the music and we stopped for a second before continuing again from there. Still, teacher said that it shouldn't fail. She said that normally people fail out of bad intonation more than anything else.

The second piece went alright. A bit out of tune in some areas, a bit untidy on the string changes, but on the whole it went reasonably well.

The third piece was the best so far, except for tiny errors and not being really able to sustain the long note at the end without slightly stopping my bowing.

The scales were a nightmare. I'll be lucky to scrape a pass here. laugh.gif As usual, A minor went harmodic instead of harmonic. Even F major had like two wrong notes in it and usually my Bb major is well-known but it was rather odd sounding on the whole. Arpeggio was even worse Bb minor and I managed to make it sound like between Bb and A minor. rolleyes.gif The Db major had a dodgy E on the way back. And the dominant 7th, she HAD to give me the one in Eb where I always forget that the second last note is an open string. rolleyes.gif The diminished 7th was rather dodgy too. Even my best scale the double stops in Bb didn't always come off. At times I bowed only one string. Ah well... ph34r.gif rolleyes.gif

Then the sight-reading... despite what everyone said they got (keys like F major and so on), I got Ab major to my horror. And it ended in F minor which gave me a bit of a surprise. Anyway, although it was a gigue, I played it steadily through. Made the 3rd position notes up as I went (at one point no doubt it became A major rolleyes.gif ) and then got back and ended on the right note. laugh.gif Trick of the trade for skivving sight-readers. biggrin.gif

Then my favourite part, the aural tests. I can't believe how much I've progressed in AB exams to be looking forward to aurals laugh.gif A bit amusing really because the examiner said the first test to sing was in F major, and she kinda hit the first note and then went, "oops, sorry!" with her hands in the air. Apparently she must have started the wrong test. laugh.gif It was a bit comforting in a way that even examiners have their bad days and are like us the candidate sometimes. wink.gif Anyway, the singing (upper part of a two part phrase) had a hitch... I ran out of breath before the last note and it got stuck in my throat for a moment before I got it out. laugh.gif The other sections were ok although I couldn't really decide if the piece was romantic or contemporary. But my final decision was comtemporary and she asked why and I said because of the rather unusual chord progressions. Oh dear.. am not sure now. Normally when they ask why, it isn't correct, is it? Anyway the time was either 2 or 4, but I said 4. Hard to tell because I forgot to listen to the pulse in the beginning or it'll be easier to discern.

So that was how the exam went. And i have to wait a bit longer than my students for my results because the examiner doesn't leave until the end of August. In fact I'll get mine the same time as my last student who's taking hers on the 20th of August. So we'll collect them first week of September.

Has anyone else taken exams this week?

Well done for sticking with it, it sounds like you will be alright, now I wish you all the best for a good result! party1.gif

Sounds like you did very well Ann - all the best for results, though I read you have to wait a while?

I think they should give you a distinction for your memory! biggrin.gif And another for your entertaining and amusing narrative skills laugh.gif Every examine I've taken in any subject has just left me in a state of fuzzy, speechless blur. Well done!
AntonPiano
sounds like fun. not as disastorous as my own.
i'm sure you have passed for definite.

at least your harmonics were partly harmonic
haha
mine weren't even in the right key half the time!

well done violin.gif wave.gif
violin-ann
Thanks everyone! I'm sure you guys will do fine in your next exam too, and Anton yours can't be quite as bad as you had imagined! Am looking forward to learning other pieces. I can't believe that I've been playing the same three piece for 8 months laugh.gif

rofl.gif rofl.gif laugh.gif Thanks, that was my favourite compliment yet. Well, I realised that if I were to forget everything, then the comments sheet which the examiner has painstakingly written would be of no use to me laugh.gif since I wasn't even aware of the performance. So I decided to record it in memory. I do wish my memory was that good for music though! My teacher spotted that I've been playing a B natural flattened just before going into the exam room. Needless to say the sudden change to B natural caused me a bit of hiccup in that part of the piece. A bit of ghastly memorising there. rolleyes.gif

Oh yes, I have wait a bit longer than the, what.. 3 weeks it takes for the board to release results to you who in the uk? And the month of August happens to have 5 Fridays too rolleyes.gif

Helloo!
Sounds like you did pretty well.
And i'm amazed how much you remember haha!
Have you started grade seven pieces then?
smile.gif

violin-ann
Hahaha, no I have not gotten hold of the Grade 7 book yet although I have put in an order. But I'll look up the syllabus and see if I have any of the music in there. smile.gif

Well, it's easier when you've just taken the exam that morning wink.gif
