Hi all!
I'm thinking of taking the ABRSM Grade 8 for piano in 2005. May I know if the 2003-2004 syllabus would still apply then?
If not, how can I find out the list of pieces that would be applicable in 2005?

Hi Nicholas,
You can use the syllabus year 2003-2004 until year 2005.
Good Luck!!

Hi Nicholas,
May is absolutely correct in what she says. Just to clarify - a revised piano syllabus will be published in August 2004 and it will be valid for Piano exams beginning in 2005.
If you are a UK candidate you may use pieces from the current 2003-2004 syllabus for the whole of this year and for the Period A (first set) of practical exams in 2005. The pieces that you use must all come from the same syllabus (ie. you can't mix the 2003-2004 syllabus with the 2005-2006 syllabus)
International candidates may continue to use the 2003-2004 syllabus until the end of 2005.
Hope this helps.
There is a "How to enter" page on the exams section of the website that will provide you with all the information you require and also some handy contact numbers in case you would like to chat through this further with someone at the Associated Board.
Hope this helps

I am in the same situation as you. I've just bought myself the 2003-2004 Grade 8 piano pieces with a view to entering myself early 2005.
I wondered if you would like to keep in touch and egg each other along, as it's a long, long time (13 years) since I last took an ABRSM Grade. It was Grade 6 which I got a distinction, but then GCSE's, A level and a degree (not music) got in the way.
Taking my Grade 8 is a big personal challenge and whilst I am nervous, I am also excited.
Ive only just bought the pieces and I'm gonna get the CD soon to decide which to tackle, although I've already got stuck in with the Beethoven in the B section.
Hope to catch up with you soon.

Both the Selected Piano Exam Pieces 2005-6 and Selected Violin Exam Pieces 2005-7 will be published on 8th July this year and should be available from all good music shops from that date.

Does this mean that the publication date has been delayed from July 8th?

Sure, it's a great idea, if you ask me. I need lots of moral support and encouragement at the moment.
If you would like to take this off-list, please feel free to PM me (click the 'PM' button below to the left)
Cheers,
Nicholas
P.S. Incidentally, it has also been 13 years since I last took an ABRSM piano exam.

I also stopped taking piano exam for 12 years before I sit for G7 last year, luckily passed, and this year G8. Wish me luck....
Just a note to those of you who sat for the "old" exam, AB has changed a lot on aural part of the exam, much tougher than the previous aural syllabus.
