Had a good lesson this morning, so let's hope the voice continues. Two and a half hours to go before I leave (not that I'm clockwatching or anything!)

Hello nice people wave.gif

Well, I survived the first evening. Lovely to meet up with familiar faces from last year, and to meet new ones. Made a new friend, a lady from the States who's been a singing teacher for 10 years or so. My goodness her voice was so beautiful. Like a mellow more full and just stonkingly wonderful Eva Cassidy. joy to listen to.

It was nerve-wracking going straight into the unnaccompanied trad. song first off. Never realised how much I hide behind my piano accompaniments! ph34r.gif

Got some lovely compliments about my Adieu, Dundee song though. The Course Director pointed out how I'd paused between the verses, to give people time to reflect on the lyrics. And she said it was a beautiful song. Then when I sat down, someone asked whether I had Scottish ancestry because of the connection I obviously had with the song. I translated that to mean that I had sung it expressively, I'm sure it was meant as a compliment. But my heart was pounding so heavily when I sat back down, it was actually really uncomfortable - it hasn't been that bad for a long time. I think it was just the whole unnaccompanied thing, so exposed, plus knowing that everyone is so much further down their singing journey than me.

But anyway, a good start to the School. Now I need to try and sleep, but the adrenaline has kicked in, so I may need a finger or two of whisky to relax and chill with. But no more than that or MrB will tell me off! laugh.gif

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.

nite nite
Amber, tired but happy

Aw, see Ambs, you must believe in yourself because you have reason to. When are you next performing?

Definitely!

You have a truly lovely voice, Asbo - the folks on the course are lucky to be listening to you biggrin.gif

Today was just brilliant. It over-ran by an hour, and so I didn't perform my recit to Charles Corp till 9.45am, and I was the third Suzanna hiding in the shrubbery that evening! "It was a Suzanna Convention" I told him.
But got some truly unbelievable comments from him, despite the fact i had a hot flush in the middle of it! Hope no-one noticed..... after all Suzanna is far too young to have hot flushes!

My morning slot with Betty Roe left me on Cloud Nine. First off she said she wasn't quite sure how to give feedback on the song because it was so rounded, steady and beautiful etc. But then we did manage to spend some time doing the "minute detail" sort of stuff, you know emphasising a certain word here and there. Then although we'd already over-run, she asked if would sing my Quilter all the way through again, (in her words) "as if to serve us all up a wonderful aperitif for us to sit and enjoy before our lunch"! Wow, surely feedback doesn't ever get any better than that. And my love of Quilter continues to grow. Listening to his songs feels like I'm being expertly massaged all over my body (odd analogy, but it's what it feels like to me).

Only two other people were invited to sing through the whole song again at the end of their session, so that made me feel a bit special. It's not often I feel special.

Plus, and now this really is a miracle, I had a quick listen to my minidisc recording, and blow me down if I didn't actually quite like the sound of my voice. I've never liked the sound of my voice. So after that I prompty went and hid in the ladies loo and burst into tears! But they weren't sad tears. I think they were perhaps tears in recognition of the fact that I am beginning to knock that whole Imposter Syndrome thingy on the head, once and for all. That would make me so happy.
You never know, maybe one I will even begin to believe that i can sing! biggrin.gif

Looking forward to our Opera class tomorrow, but now I need to jump off my Cloud Nine and get some sleep!

Thanks for listening!

That's lovely - you deserve to feel special more often.

Thank you, it's down to all the help I've been getting people!

Yesterday was pretty amazing, and some most unusual things happened when my teacher turned to up what my session with the tutor (great eh, having your teacher in the audience).

Nice news today. I heard that they would like to me sing two songs in the concert tomorrow night, rather than just the one. She wants me to sing my unaccomp traditional folk song again which I sang on Saturday night. It's called Adieu Dundee, and is a delightful haunting song.

Got my fiendish Schubert tomorrow in the Lieder class. Help, double help and triple help.
Oh well, fingers crossed that my body will do what I hope it will do.

In the meantime I'm off to bed.

Nite nite lovely people,

Only just caught up with your summer school posts Amber - I am so HAPPY that it's going so well for you.

Lovely descriptions! I've mostly been a (useful) voice in the crowd rather than a soloist, so having been given a couple of small solos recently I find some of your thoughts definitely ring bells ...

What positive feedback you're getting ! Keep us posted when you have a moment.
