Has anyone else got tomato blight after the recent rains ?
Does anyone know if Bordeaux mixture works ?

So THAT's what's wrong with my tomato plants!!!! I just though I was a very bad gardener (but I still know next to nothing about growing things on purpose (ie non weeds)).

Don't know about blight. Mine just drowned and froze to death.
I put some new ones in pots last week, and in the last 3 days of sun they have changed form weedy little things to enormous bushes tongue.gif

Mine seem ok at the moment.

I didn't know tomatoes grew on plants. I thought they came in little plastic tubs from the co-op.

Thats why they taste of nothing

Ours seem to be suffering a little, but fingers crossed they seem to be coming on reasonably well now.

Have you tried real ones, ie not supermarket stodge?

Mine seem OK - what should I be worried about? I know my mum's were looking sad...

Sorry...I have tried, but... unsure.gif

Hehe, fair enough then. Most of the people I know who "hate tomatoes" have never eaten a real one, but if you have and still don't like them... well, all the more for me eh? wink.gif biggrin.gif

My tomatos are looking amazing, because they are in pots on the patio they didn't suffer because of the rain, and I've been feeding them with a mixture of fermented Rhubarb leaves. Its the first year I've done it, its kept the cabbage whites off my brussels (can't say I blame them, it smells disgusting) they are looking brilliant, as are the tomatos. biggrin.gif Also this was the only water that we had that we weren't tempted to use when the water was off because of the flood ill.gif

My potatoes on the other hand are on my allotment, totally blighted and now dead because of the rain, and the poor bloke on the allotment next to me would have been better off setting up a rice paddy field. angry.gif

This is the first year we've lived here that my mum hasn't grown her tomatoes - I think the neighbours are pleased not to be sent home laden with basket upon basket of tomatoes that one family just can't eat (I imagine it didn't help that neither my sister nor I eat tomatoes if we can help it.)

Does anyone know whether the side shoots will eventually fruit. I had an accident with my tomato plants and their main trusses died.

Fortunately the local farm shop sells locally grown vine ripened tomatoes that actually taste of tomato... as does the farmers market in ely.

When I had a veg patch I got some Blight on my Potatoes and the Bordeaux mixture worked on them. I miss not having home grown broad beans, onions, shallots, potatoes and carrots.
Miss Ross
The side shoots on our tomato plants have fruit on them, which is a little unfortunate. If we leave them we'll have more fruit but it probably won't be as good, or we could remove them and have less fruit. They should have been removed earlier I suppose but I wasn't here...

I was rubbish at pricking mine out last year and I had loads of fruit on side and main shoots but they were very small.

sarah-flute
Small ones are sweeter anyway!

I love fresh tomatoes but the plants make me sneeze!
