Melody Amour
Today I purchased the above-mentioned two books to start me on my journey of becoming an all-round musician (piano). I don't know if anyone has read these but the Art of Practising the Piano (Jeffrey Whitton) has chapers onpractising analysis, pieces, memorisation, performance, rhythm, scales and arpeggios, practising exercises, pedal practice and practising sight-reading. It is in an nice easy format.

The super sight-reading secrets book is described as an innovative, step-by-step program for keyboard players of all levels (and states that it is adaptable to other instruments). It has chapters including the psychology of sight-reading, the process of sight-reading and drills, amongst other things. I'll have to let you know how I get on with this one.

I have just realised I should have posted this in the piano forum, but the thought of typing this again .....

I have the super sightreading secrets book and I found the exercises really good, but sometimes hard to understand. One disadvantage I think is that it requires you to have a copy of the bach chorales (4 voices for keyboard instruments) and I found that one very hard to get. The other book I don't know but is sounds really interesting. Please let us know what you think smile.gif

These sound really great books. I am lucky that sight-reading on the piano has always been easy for me (sorry blush.gif ), but i'm really interested in the psychology of it because it's something i've always tried to figure out when helping other people with it. Will be interested in what you think smile.gif
