Full Version: Postal Strikes...

Someone just mentioned postal strikes in a thread - blush.gif I didn't know they were still happening (out of the loop or what?)

Does anyone know where one can check if/when one is likely to be affected on a regional basis? Unless I misunderstood the stuff I DID find, it is affecting different areas at different times.

Big things don't fit through my letterbox so I tend to be "all ears" till the post arrives when I am expecting something, but I don't want to be keeping my ears open all day on a day when nothing is going to arrive, or to be posting my letters in boxes which won't get collections.... unsure.gif

So it is a long shot, but *if* anyone knows where I can check, preferably online, then that'd be brilliant.

Well we had a postal strike on more than one occasion a few weeks ago. But I had no idea that they were happening now...so lets hope the post comes smile.gif

Apparently, there are going to be "lightening" strikes nationwide throughout August. They will only inform us it's happening on the day before the strike goes ahead. ph34r.gif So it's a case of listening to the news or keeping an eye online I'm afraid....
sarah-flute
I didn't have any post yesterday despite expecting some... having read about the strikes I know don't know whether I should expect it today! wacko.gif

I need to get a better letterbox!

I know what you need - an ultra intelligent pink letterbox (or whatever your favourite colour is!) It would tell you when it was expecting the postman to arrive! laugh.gif

www.royalmail.com have put an update online now....

www.royalmail.com have put an update online now....

I found this http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content...Postal%20Strike

I just wondered if there was anything more specific.

You'l find it's different bits each day - so one day might be collections on strike, the next day deliveries, the next day the sorting offices. Crown post offices are also involved, so far just for the odd afternoon here and there - but note that sub-post offices (the little ones) are not involved, and some crown post offices have enough staff left to stay open anyway!

Royal Mail have a link on their site that they are updating regularly - you can also sign up there for email updates.
sarah-flute
I didn't see the email thing - thanks Maizie! It asks for your postcode etc so presumably if possible the updates will be more locally relevant. Thanks!

I really really hate postal strikes, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. At least I won't sit around any longer waiting for the post today. I'm waiting for results, books, music. ill.gif ill.gif ill.gif

In Scotland our exam results for Standard Grades etc are supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. I'm not holding out much hope of actually getting them. mad.gif

Yes, my post has been known to arrive mid afternoon...
magicflute
Yes post has come mid afternoon before even though I live in a town. I also love getting the post, I'm always disappointed as there's hardly anything for me. Unless I've been busy on ebay...smile.gif

Didn't have post yrsterday or today... in Sussex
melody_maker
Ohmygosh...

We've had no post all week!

And I didn't even know...

And my Standard Grade results come on Tuesday...

And the strike finishes on Wednesday...

This is bad news...

But I can get them online..

smile.gif
YetAnotherPianist
Thankfully, the Internet cannot go on strike. And, as always seems to happen, the strike action will cause a slight drop in how many documents are sent through the post rather than online, reducing the number of postmen needed....
Miss Ross
Melody - neither have we ohmy.gif, and I'm waiting for Higher results. I didn't register online sad.gif so I hope everything's sorted by Tuesday. Although...I wouldn't mind a few more days of not worrying about them.
nicki_flute
Not heard about any strikes. Our post on some occassions has been known to come through the door at 7.30am, other times it comes at about 2pm!

I'm waiting on Standard Grade results but i was reading on the BBC news website that the SQA is going to send the results out by courier if the strike is still ongoing.
magicflute
I got some post today! A heavy pile dropped onto the mat and I rushed out, expecting to find nothing for me. Then I was greeted by an edition of Flute talk! yay!!
sarah-flute
I got my flute talk today too biggrin.gif

Have I missed something? What's the connection? unsure.gif
YetAnotherPianist
I guess you either haven't been to university, or somehow went but avoided catching the 'ooh, post!' bug. There's little more exciting than inspecting the college pigeon holes on the off-chance of some mail biggrin.gif.
katyjay
Unfortunately the "ooh, post!" thing wears off after a few more years of junk mail and bills.....
BachPensioner
Or else you get to the stage where it is 'Oh good -no post' because more post is more (usually admin) work
