Hey, just looked at the new syllabuses for 2008-2013 Flute. I was quite upset that the Grade 5 pieces have completely changed because I really wanted to do Faure's Sicillienne, which is on the syllabus this year but not in the new year- sob! I dont think i would be ready to enter in for it in November which would be my way around it...
Will have to see if i can twist my teacher's arm and practice tonnes and tonnes...you never know, he might say yes! And it's only 3 more scales and a few more chromatics and dominants (gulp), and harder aural....hmm, there's goes my holiday, plus...THEORY!! been avoiding it for years, want to take gr5 in november, definately, think i'll have to work a bit faster, do yu think it's possible to get from grade 2 to grade5 in the space of 4months?- will have to experiment. unsure.gif

You can take the old syllabus in the spring 2008 as well... Spring 08 you can do the old or new syllabus

You can use the 2007 pieces for the first term of 2008 if you really, really want to do the Sicilliene, however if you do that, then ALL your pieces must come from the 2007 syllabus, you can't mix 'n' match both syllabuses.

From Summer 2008, the new syllabus is the only one you'll be able to use.

It's already been said - you can use it in the spring.

I hardly know anything on the new syllabus... blink.gif unsure.gif

As for grade 5 theory you actually have only three months and only just over one month until the entry has to go in. If you are genuinely only at grade 2 level for theory I think you will find it tough to get to grade 5 in that time and it will depend how much you have picked up along the way during your instrumental lessons. I think you would certainly need to find a teacher prepared to give you a crash course and start with them right now. I would take it a bit slower and do it alongside or after your grade 5 flute, that way you could probably mostly teach yourself and have your flute teacher do a bit of marking for you.

Thanks, I have picked up a lot- and luckily my Dad is also a music teacher, so this is when he can start to make himself useful!!, but i do realise it is an extremely big task, and i dunno, i might be dreaming and deluding myself- but i can at least try...the idea was that i could get it out of the way, before GCSE's etc in the summer, but if (or when) it doesnt happen, at least i will have started covering the ground work...
And thanks to everyone about the syllabus, i didnt know you could do the old one in the spring too- my luck is starting to change for the better, distinction at grade 4, roll on grade 5!
